    Windows(comp) freeze

    System: Win 7 x64- Nvidia gtx650- Nvidia 340.52- mem 16gb- dvdfab 9159- imgburn 2580
    Antivir/Malware firewall etc...off.

Screen finishing installation and windows freezes before completion, some fumbling 7x, never give up. Start dvdfab windows freeze complete again. New installation windows 7(yes) same result.

All suggestions from other users no result. Finish using dvdfab, it is not my job since this looks alike.

    Anyone......??

    Found the error.
Board ASUS Sabertooth 990FX/Gen 3 R2.0, when the ASMedia sata controller drivers are used dvdfab will not finish installation, a simple complete system freeze. there are 6 amd sata connectors and 2 ASMedia avail. Also some extern e-sata etc....
For hardware reasons I need to install the asmedia drivers.
    One problem, no DVDFab.

This may be related to the nvidia driver you are using, please see this: http://forum.dvdfab.cn/showthread.php?t=25674

I have this problem with the installer.

At the very end of the installer (progress bar is at 100%) it stalls and then the system kernel panics (blue screen of death) with error code CRITICAL_PROCESS_FAILED. The system is not even able to produce a log.

Uninstalling the ASMedia SATA driver, and DVDfab install proceeds without crash.

I can confirm that this never used to be a problem. I am using Windows 8.

I assume the crash is occurring during a driver install by DVDFab which seems to conflict with the running ASMedia driver.

Does Win8 have a system event log? If so, check that. Are the ASMedia drivers used for some special hardware?

There is an event log, but I am not exactly sure what to look for. Usually Windows makes a log when a system crash occurs (Windows 8 shows a progress indicator of writing this log). In this case, the log seemed to not write.

The ASMedia drivers are for a SATA controller on the motherboard for some of the extra SATA ports. I think many of the ASUS motherboards include these.

I will also try re-installing the ASMedia drivers and see if everything works still after this. It might just be during DVD fab install that the problem occurs.

The developers suggest connecting the optical drive to the non-ASUS ports directly, or try temporarily removing the drive from the ASUS port and start DVDFab to see if it will run correctly in that condition.

Did this begin with a particular version of DVDFab?

I think the CD Drive is indeed connected to one of the SATA ports provided by the ASMedia controller (2 of 8). I'll probably just leave the driver uninstalled for now as the Windows default drivers also work, and I don't have any performance drives connected to these SATA drives to worry about optimal performance. DVDFab is working with the cd drive as is.

I am not sure which version I had installed previously. I was using the trial version a few months ago, and recently bought the current version.

                    Additional info

Started with V 9159, 9164/6 installation ok but other funny problem with the six vers. Nvidia latest version .52.
                    Reading comments and member bystrom.
Use same asus mainboard, all 6 board AMD S-ata connectors in use by 4 HD's and 2 optical drives. 2 Asmedia connectors only 1 for HD(sata3).
Changed all the suggested drives so my HD from asm to asus, optical to asm etc...., no pos result.

Fab 9164/6 installation ok but when I start the prog, all that is connected to my ASM connectors intern and extern disappear. Must install these sata again for the access to my hardware and there they are, till I start DVDfab again.
External devices are 2x media device and several other drives when necessary. These do not need particular soft/hardware drivers only the ASM's for data flow. Latest asm sata is 2.08.1. For my usb 3.0 devices I use the standard asm drivers. I need the ASM sata drivers for the external hardware, no windows alternative. As you can read I am busy but like to stop with these nonsens for dvdfab only.

                    Otherwise great prog ur dvdfab!!
