CPU/GPU Is i5+8G Enough for DVDFab Operations

    Hi, A quick question...

My current HP i7+8G Ram+1G Video Card, running Window 7, suddenly becomes sluggish. Therefore, I am contemplating to get a new computer.

Given the new and improved harddware and software, is a current i5+8G Ram without a video card good enough to operate DVDFab programs. If not, what areas should I reinforce?

Manyy thanks to any advice you care to grace,

Have you tried to see what is wrong with the i7? The i5 should work fine but will probably not be as fast compressing Blu-rays or when using Blu-ray Ripper.

I thought I ran out of rams, so I upgraded to 16G. But, no improvement was noticed at all. I currently have problems even watching a youtube with intermitent halts.

I have not tried to upgrade my video card. Maybe that is the problem? I googled for the answer to no avail, so I came here for help.

      Any other suggestions?

Note: the unit ran beautifully for about 4 years until recently; is it time to retire?

Unlikely the video card would have made the existing machine slow down suddenly. Maybe one of our system experts can give you some suggestions.

Malware is notorious for slowing down computers I see it a lot. I recommend getting Malwarebytes Pro, update the database and do a full scan. Before I would spring for a new computer I would zero out the HDD and reinstall the OS, just start over.

              Agreed...

If you're struggling to watch YouTube videos. First things first... Check your system for bugs and remove them!

At the very worst. Back-up your files (if you have not already done so) and perform a clean installation of your Windows 7 O/S. And only re-install software applications you actually require. Keep things simple

First my hearty thanks for very your extra support and advice.

I like the suggestion of reinstalling my OS. I have recovery disks. Should I do that? Of course I will use a new HDD. After that, I will copy back files as needed.

Fours years are long enough to pick up malwares without knowing. But, based on the sudden drop in performance, I tend to agree that some malware must have taken over my computer. If my understanding is correct and my approach, proper, please give me your nod.

                Many many thanks,

One more question. Since I have an HP server, can I back upo my files onto the server first?

Then will the malware come along with the back up files ? If not, I can reinstall the OS, then copy out from my server all the files on by one.

                  Which route is better? Thanks,

I highly recommend you scan all files with Malwarebytes and be sure they are clean before moving them anywhere. You may infect many other files on other machines.

Get the Malwarebytes Pro program from the internet it comes with a free trial period it won't cost you a cent.Update it's data base and do a full scan you can fix your slow computer without reformatting your hard drive this I would only do if I couldn't fix the slow down.

Reformatting the drive will wipe any virus but your programs may have a virus or malware that's why you need this program it will take the malware from effected programs and if you keep the paid pro program it protects while on the net so you can't download any malware so you won't get infected in the future.Try to fix it first.

A long time ago, I used a malware cleaner, which in turn made me a hostage of the malware cleaner. That's why I thought of choosing reinstallation.

In nay case, I have to scan my files. So I will take your advice, scanning all my files first.

I have a one TB HDD, 60% full. Do you have any idea as to how long it will take to scan the files?

MWB Pro will take a little time, not all day, to scan, after that the pro version is transparent in the background, updates itself and watches files coming in.
Just an added point, formatting a hard drive does not guarantee all nastiness is removed, almost all data is recoverable on a formatted drive that's why I suggested zeroing it out. Writing zeros to every bit of every byte on the drive, no bugs survive! Takes much longer than a format, but drive is clean.

OK. I am determined to set aside this weekend to scan every bit on my HDD. Luckily, I just received and hooked up my Chromebox today; it should tide me over for the time being.

Amazingly, this little palm-sized Chromebox has only 2GB ram and a Celeron

                              THANKSSSSSSSSSSSS,
