    Which i7 CPU 860 or 920 ?

I'm thinking of buying a new system-board and processor.
Now there are 2 CPUs that have my attention.
    The i7 860 (1156 Quad Core) and they i7 920 (1366 Quad Core).
Both are about the same price. But on paper and some benchmark tests thet i7 860 is faster, because of his higher clockspeed. The mainboard of the i7 920 has other advantages like Tri-Channel memory controller and two full X16 slots, great for GPU's in SLI.

But the only reason I want to upgrade from my E6600 is to speed up the BD50 to BD25 compression. I play only one game on my PC (FM2010), and this does not require any high performance stuff. Games I play on my PS3.

So what will be the best choice 860 or 920 ?
And will 2 Cuda capable GPUs in SLI mode take advantage of the full X16 slots, what would be an asset for the 920 over the 860?

Will a mainboard with "CUDA Parallel computing supported" increase the performance of compressing a BD to 25Gb with DVDFab ? Of course when using Nvidea graphic cards.

Like the ASUS P6T7 WS SuperComputer or the ASUS P7P55 WS Supercomputer

I hear that CUDA support is on the way and will be usable in a future release of DVDFab. Sorry, no ETA.

Do the lights dim when you turn that thing on?

No, because I turn of the lights when watching Tv.
My Belkin PureAV PF40 indicates something about 2,5 Amperes of power consumptions at 230V, so that makes 575 Watt.

But the neighbors think we have a lot of earthquake lately.

I'm not sure how much help I can be as I do not have any BR hardware, so I cannot benchmark my system re: any BR processes.

I think these are the 2 cpu's you're looking at:

            I'm currently running the
            Intel Core i7-920 Bloomfield 2.66GHz 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Processor
            in a Win7 64-bit rig

It screams. My Mobile conversions have gone from about 50 fps (from my old rig, XP Pro P4 3.0 GHz HT) to 500 fps...a 10-fold increase.
This is purely cpu-based speed as there is no CUDA support yet for the Mobile conversions.
            I'm doing high-quality 2-pass h264 conversions in 10 minutes as compared to times > 100 minutes.

I'm running a single NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 card, specifically,
            EVGA 896-P3-1257-AR GeForce GTX 260 Core 216 Superclocked Edition 896MB 448-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI

It was a bear getting it into my case, especially with a
COOLER MASTER V8 RR-UV8-XBU1-GP 120mm Rifle CPU Cooler

Based on your preferences,Tri-channel memory controller and SLI option, I'd go with the 920 same as I did.
My thinking here is the advantages of the 920 outweigh the faster clock speeds of the 860.
Having said that, both processors look like real winners

As Complication said, the development for more comprehensive CUDA support in underway from the boys in Beijing, but no ETA.

LMAO at the dimmed light and earthquakes.

If you're sticking 2 of these cards in and upgrading to anything besides a stock cooler,
I'd start looking at Frigidaires and Kitchenaids for your case...

Just find out that you need one Nvidia Quadro and for optimal performance 3 Nvidia Tesla cards. And then I saw there price

You guys bring tears to my eyes my old dual Xeon 3.03 system "crawls" at 35fps. Admittedly I probably have the resolution cranked too high. I console myself by saying I am helping keep the house warm this winter.

With those CPUs and CUDA encode/decode support, the bottleneck will probably be the drive read speed (as it is for DVD to DVD). Check the specs on the drive you will be using for reads to see what it is for video files.

I don't have any input for you regarding the two CPUs. However, if you're trying to increase the performance of your system. The first step I usually take is to max out the RAM. 2GB for such a system is on the low end. 4GB is recommended, but more the better. FYI.

I have to change the specs. Since yesterday i7 920@2,66Ghz and 6gb Corsair Domintor DDR3@1,866Ghz. Over a few weeks I will try to crank up the speed of the CPU. The objective is 4Ghz stable for the BluRay 50 to BluRay 25 compression.

I will post my results (DVDFab improvments) here in this topic.
