    Optical Drives WH16NS40 firmware question

    Hello,

    I have a new drive WH16NS40 with 4K 1.04 firmware.
I got several messages saying drive firmware is not backup compatible.

Does that mean it wont work for makinf regular blue-ray or dvd backups?

Or does it mean it wont work for 4k movie backups only?

Also if I run your firmware tool is there any risk of drive not working after that?
Or will it effect me for simply watching newer movies on my PC without making backups?

    Thanks in advance

Hi Gren, WH16NS40 with 4K 1.04 firmware is not compatible, once you downgrade it to 1.02fw, it should be able to copy/play UHD movies with DVDFab products. However, once downgrade, you won't be able to update it to 1.04 at the moment.

      Hello,

Thanks for fast reply to my issue.
      My followup questions.

Will downgrading make it so newer disks wont play without running passkey? (I mean simply play the movie not to back it up!)

Also if I run your downgrade tool can it crash the drive making it useless?
I ask as LG drives are no longer for sale in Canada not even shown on LG Canada's website.
It is very hard to get PC drives in Canada because of changes LG made.

      Thanks in advance
      Gren

Not if you follow the instructions. The program has plenty of warnings and error traps. For extra insurance, the host pc and the drive you are modifying should be on a backup power system.
