If you were using the trial version, it may be expired. If you have a registered version, the new install may not have recognized the key correctly. If you purchased the key somewhere else besides the dvdfab.com website, the key you were using may be blacklisted. Please click on the "?" icon in the top right of the DVDFab window and select "About" from the list. It will tell you whether the DVD to DVD featuers are registered and activated correctly.

Also do you have the DVD5 setting selected so it will be a SL and not DL. To have it set for DVD5 go into common settings the green dot with the checkmark and select DVDtoDVD and make sure default is set to DVD5 and NOT DVD9. Then go to General and make sure you have Memorize user interface options checked. restart DVDFab and then try again to see if that works since you say it is registered.

Also press the HELP ("?" in blue button, top right of window) and then About to make absolutely sure that it is registered.

I did checked all of the above DVD5 was my default but I had to check under General tab Memorize user interface options. I restarted DVDFab and tried again no luck. I am registered in fact I requested another key and updated my registration which says "Never expire" but still won't work. Trying Avatar now no luck.

                    We need additional details.
Please rip the files (using DVD5) to your hdd, ie., select a location on your hdd as the Target.
Please post the file size of the ripped files.

                    Now, look in Common Settings > DVD / Blu-ray > Write >
                    Writable Media (DVD-5) Size.

What "Size" do you have as your default setting?
If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

                      dvd5 wont compress

folder on hard drive says 4599 MB.

My setting is for DVD 5 4600MB. I'm now trying to back up "The Road" and it also asks for a double layer disc. Source is hard drive folder and target is E drive burner.

You don't have 4600 MB of room on a blank dvd5.
The max setting is 4472 MB and this should be used only with top quality media.
(The blank itself will max out at about 4480-4481 MB and you can't write to the edge anyway).

What is the MID of your blank media?
If it's Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden, you can give 4472 MB a shot.
If it fails or plays lousy near the end of the flick, you'll have to go lower.

Thank you Maineman and everyone else who helped me. I adjusted the MB to below 4400 and it all works well so far. Hope this fixes it for me for good.

I have used 4472 for all my blank media good or poor and that works fine. The poor should be burned between 4x and 12x depending on the media and burner used. This has worked for me for a few years but not sure the exact length it has but good to hear you got it working now and if I was you I would experiment with different mb sizes and burn speeds to see what works for you. This way you can get the most and best for you back ups that you like
