Anamorphic Aspect Ratios?

Does this thing allow for anamorphic AR's so that the full screen is used up?

Yes, it does (if you select autocrop or do it manually). The crop marks are displayed on the flat, non-anamorphic decoded image.

but when displayed its still letterboxed with black bars. I wold like to break the AR and expand vertically

just to reharse but i have a DVD 720x576 but dvdfab makes it into 720x306 sometimes which looks really narrow vertically

If it only does this sometimes, it is probably the way the DVD is authored. For these titles, try setting the aspect ratio manually, then manually crop out the black bars. These controls are on the Video Effect settings page on the Resize and Crop tabs. For problem DVDs, just try short conversions using the Title start/end settings until you get the values right, it will save time by not converting the entire movie each time. Note that your player will add black bars if its screen does not match the aspect ratio of the video, i.e. 1.78:1 screen playing 2.4:1 content = black bars top and bottom. All this assumes you are talking about conversions using DVD to Mobile.

LOL you change the AR of the source to fit the final AR??

why not just set the final dimensions and the AR according to those dimensions?

If it is letterboxed and you delete the black bars on the left and right, you have in effect changed the aspect ratio to which the original should be rendered. You will have to experiment with the odd titles.

why is it that for PAL DVD 720x576, dvdfab reports a source resolution of 1024x576?

I have no idea, could be DVDFab, could be the original DVD. That would be a normal aspect ratio (1.78:1) for a decoded anamorphic PAL DVD I think.
