help with closed caption or subtitles

    Help,

I am using version 7.0.8.2. I do not have the display forced sub pictures checked. I get closed captioning on the output. I also tried the other way my checking that box, and still get closed captioning or subtitles. What the hell am I doing wrong.

Just to clarify in any movie English or otherwise I get the spoken words displayed at the bottom of the screen. Very annoying. I know there is an easy fix however I have reinstalled and searched the forums. Not finding an answer, help?

Do you have all the subpicture boxes unticked?

is this on the back up DVD using the DVD player hooked up to your TV? If that is correct then use the remote for your DVD Player and turn subtitles off. If using computer then go to the settings part of the player you using and turn subtitles off

You are getting them because you have set default flag for subtitles and they are playing by default. If I would know more info, if you would present it better, I would probably give you better advise how to fix it. In a meanwhile, you can turn subtitles off in your player. Again, I have no idea what are you doing and what player you are using, but if you would use this player (it's free, you can download and install it from here:http://mpc-hc.sourceforge.net/downlo...lassic-hc.html
You may find this player easy to use and very handy. You can easily turn subs off with this player.

Oops guys, I haven't seeing any of you. I apologize.

When I just put the DVD in and ask Windows Media Player to play the DVD, no subtitles show up. Default profiles in DVDFab?

This is a DVD being put into a computer DVD drive. Starting DVDFab and setting the main movie to rip to a PS 3 file or mp4 file. There is no DVD player software other then DVDFab.

We are talking about the program you are playing this DVD back with on the computer. You need to turn subtitles off in that program or turn on which ever you want as DVDFab still copies the subtitles to the DVD but it up to you to turn off subtitles in the program you use to watch it on

I think this post is very confusing as the OP is now talking about PS3 & MP4.

If you are using DVD to Mobile to create these files, make sure that you have all the subpicture boxes ticked and the Forced Subtitle box unticked.

                    Hello All,

One person said I have not been clear, so I will try to reexplain. I am using DVD to mobile in DVDFab. I put in the DVD and am trying to rip the main movie to PS3 format for viewing later. I have tried to rip the movie with the "forced sub pictures" box checked and unchecked. When viewing the movie after ripping it I get closed captioning, the words at the bottom of the screen that the actors are speaking. I have tried to go into the setting before ripping and see if anything is telling DVDFAB to rip sub pictures nothing is checked. If I just stick the DVD into my computer and view the movie with my computer DVD player there are no sub pictures. However when I rip with DVDFAB there are sub pictures in the finished product.

I really have spent 90 USD on this product and would like it to work right. Any ideas as to what is going on. Also when viewing the ripped PS3 movie on anything whether it is a PS3 or my computer software player, I have tried to shut off the sub pictures or close captioning, it will not shut them off. Its like DVDFAB is including them into the final movie by default. I have also gone into settings of DVDFAB and went down to the only sub pictures area and tried to shut it off.

OK, I'll try to explain it in simplistic terms even though this can vary from disk to disk, depending on the authoring.

There can be various subtitles (or Subpictures) for a movie eg, English, French, Spanish, etc.

Forced subtitles are usually held within one of the subpicture streams (But I have seen them in a stream of their own).

In the case of Avatar on DVD, these forced subtitles are held in the "English" stream and I think it is the same on the BR version.

To get these subs in the file, you have to firstly check, the English subtitles in the subpicture selection area and then also check the forced subtitles checkbox.

You can check the results of your settings in the preview area.

With regard to being unable to turn them off, this is because they are directly rendered into the video. You can check this by using the edit function. This is because most mobile file formats do no support a separte subtitle stream within the file, although I know MKV does.

I suggest that you spend a little more time learning how the software works rather than moaning about your $90. We have all paid our money here so that doesn't make you special !!! And you did have a free 30 day trial.

The R1 DVD of Avatar does not have forced subs. The Navispeak is directly rendered into the video during authoring.

                          Really?

Here Down Undah, it caused innumerable problems playing on PC's because it is in "Papyrus" font in the actual subtitles which a lot of soft players were unable to render and hence didn't display.

Let me see if i can help explain what is happenning as i am having the same problem when using the PS3 setting on DVD to Mobile option. (Im in the US, ripped Avatar to MKV and it was fine, only the forced subtitles showed up)

In using the PS3 option, the entire movie was ripped displaying subtitles. the problem lies in there is when you edit the PS3 Profile, the only option under subpicture is "Direct render to video". The MKV profile (and all the others that I can see) have a sub picture option to "extract to idk/sub file".

so the real question is; why is there no sub picture option to "extract to idk/sub file" for the PS3 profile? And how do i get one? Or is the only way to do this setting up a generic profile using the Ps3 profile settings:

(Since there is no sub picture option to "extract to idk/sub file" I'm assuming the subtitles will show up no matter what DVD i rip using the PS3 profile. avatr is the only DVD i tried ripping using the PS3 profile. I've ripped both the Incredibles and Avatar in MKV and they were perfect)

Most probably because Fab believes that the PS3 does not support external subs.

If you wish to obtain them, just do a MKV rip and create the external subs and you can use these.

Don't forget to name the sub & idx files exactly the same as the PS3 file witout the extension.
