Other Hardware To NAS or not to NAS

I purchased a Synology NAS box and a couple HDD to use for movies/pictures/and what not. Is it worh it?

Would a simple external HDD work just fine for storing these media items and as connected to my PC, work as the device to stream media from to my HDTV.

Big investment for NAS vs a couple external USB 3.0 drives connected to my PC for the same purpose.

I think it depends on your NAS setup. I would not use it for DVDFab temp files and if a networked drive is not available when DVDFab needs it, there can be problems.
