is it possible to convert a zone 5 dvd and have it play on a zone 1 player. in other words will dvdfab convert zone codes when ripping it to disc

I think you are talking about region codes? If so Fab will remove the region coding and if region 5 is NTSC it will play, if it is PAL Fab won't change the format. Check your player and see if it palys both formats. The computer wil play it for sure.How to post the internal log

90312's advice is right on as always.
Another thought. I don't know how many "out-of-region" discs you're talking, but keep in mind your burner will only change regions 5 times, then it will be locked. If the last region is not yours, you're kinda skunked.
The easy way around this is to use Fab Passkey (still free in its beta phase), essentially a windows driver which will render the disc "region-free" when read by your burner.
The other way to avoid the region-lock issue is to look for modified rpc1 firmware.
