    Artifacting

I'm seeing issues with some movies having minor artifacts randomly through the movie. I recently made backups of I am number four and THOR on Blu-Ray and they both had this issue. I then searched this forum and found a couple others with artifacting issues. I have a Core i7-2600k as do at least one of the others with this problem. I did what they suggested and turned off hyper threading and sure enough the backups I did a 2nd time were perfect. The other user had a 6 core CPU. It would seem that DVDfab is having issues with more then 4 cores and or Hyper Threading. This has happened on several of the last versions and with the latest as well. For now I will continue to shut off hyper threading on my system to keep this from happening, it would however be nice to see this fixed in a future release.

Thanks very much for your time and hard work on this product

Does turning off hyper threading make any difference for backup/compression rates? Do you really need it on? Which brand of media are you using? And at what speed are you burning at? Which burn engine do you use?
    For Win7 C:\Users\User Name\My Documents\DVDFab\Log
    or Vista C:\Users\User Name\Documents\DVDFab\Log
    or for XP C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\My Documents\DVDFab\Log

Yes it causes about a 20% loss and I really don't enjoy going into the bios to turn it on and off every time I want to make a blu-ray backup. Being able to run 8 threads vs. 4 is not something i want to leave turned off. It's the reason I bought this CPU.

      I'm using Verbatim 25GB 2X BD-R same that I've always used & burning at 2x.

I'm using the VSO burn engine but have also tried Image Burn, no difference.

I never had this issue on my Core 2 Quad with this same media and settings and after searching this forum for artifacting I'm not the only one with this issue. I found both a 6 Core Xeon user and another with my exact CPU. They just happened to be compressing to MKV but were experiencing the same exact problem. Unfortunately their was no mention of a fix in the works or that this was even a certified bug.

I hope this info helps and again thanks for your time!!

I'm not sure the issue you're seeing is entirely to do with the CPU - I've a Phenom quad core and have tried to backup "I Am Number 4" to BD9 with versions 8125 & 8127 (8128 is running as I type). In both cases so far the output isn't really watchable with artifacting occurring every few seconds along with the impression that the playback has jumped backwards a couple of frames and then moves forward again every so often.

I was assuming there must be something strange with the original encode and DVDFab wasn't handling it quite right.

For info I'm only using the Lightning decode/encode - all GPU acceleration is disabled.

I'd be very interested to know if anybody else has come across this or has fixed it (in such a way that it can be applied to an AMD user...)

          Hi tiredtown
Have you tried it with Lightning-Recoding disabled.
If not give it a try.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I'm giving that a go now (the test with it still enabled on build 8128 still has the issues).

              Hi tiredtown
Are you compressing from you drive?

If so, please do not compress from your drive.

First save it to your HDD as BD50 "Movie Only" without compression.
Then open the hard drive folder select BD9 to compress to another folder on your hard drive.
Use the "Write Data" mode of Fab to open this COMPRESSED folder and burn to a disk.
Doing it this way saves wear and tear on your optical drive and is also faster.

If still having problems please post your logs the default location is:
              For Win7 C:\Users\User Name\My Documents\DVDFab\Log
              or Vista C:\Users\User Name\Documents\DVDFab\Log
              or for XP C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\My Documents\DVDFab\Log

                Hi,

No, I'm doing all this after ripping to the HD. I'm then checking the output before burning.

So far it would appear you were right in suggesting to disable 'lightning', the film has two m2ts files - the first of these has finished and appears to playback fine now.

Looks like the issue sits with the 'lightning' feature - sadly it's now taking an extra 1.5 hours to complete the re-encode (it's still running). Hopefully the devs will take a look at this...?

                    Hi,

The log file is attached for all my attempts to backup the movie "I am number 4". Only the last one (with Lightning Decode/Encode disabled) is watchable.

Hope that helps identify the problem...

                    Thanks in advance!

I haven't seen the issue again since I turned off Hyper-Threading on my Core i7 2600k. I never turned off lightning but I'd think it would still artifact with Hyper-Threading off it that was my issue. Also my movies were still very watchable just glitchy here and there. Leaving it off all movies have come out perfect since. Not the way I want to leave it though.
