    Blu Ray Copy Stutter

Last evening I made a blu ray backup of "Shakespeare in Love" (main movie mode) and it completed the process successfully. However, when playing it back on both my computer and panasonic player the video portion of the movie stuttered while the audio did not. I have never experienced this problem in over 100 backups. I then tried to backup the entire blu ray disc to see if this made any difference - it did not.
I would appreciate any help in trying to find a solution to this problem - thanks in advance.

Please post the DVDFab internal log session from the creation of this backup. I am moving your thread to the correct forum (Blu-ray Copy).

          Hi bensons9
Along with the advice about your logs and new version you could try turning off Lightning-Recoding
Open Fab click the Click the Green at top right corner of the DVD Fab screen, and open Common Settings > General >A/V Codec, uncheck Lightning-Recoding, restart Fab and try again.

Even if it's a little thing, do something for those who have need of help, something for which you get no pay but the privilege of doing it.

I did update to the latest version and tried the backup again however with the same results as before. I will try with the lightning-recode turned off and see if that corrects the stutter. Thanks again !

From my experience, frequently when compressing Main Movie only, you end up with "the stutter." Good news is that simply unchecking the "Lightning Recode" option box always does the trick, at least for me. And I find the increase in compression time not using "Lightning Recode" is approximately 20% longer - so when you're dealing in hours anyway, who cares.

I've also observed that if the Main Movie compression projected time seems to be too short for the percentage compression number, then you'll end up with a stuttering backup copy. This is a qualitative judgement, meaning that if you've done enough backups of the main movie using compression, you generally get a feel for how long a compression time a given compression number requires. If the projected time looks to short to me after about 5 minutes, I usually bail and retry the backup with with "Lightning Recode" off.

              Hopes this helps.

I just looked back at several disks I've extracted the main movie to ISO on disk and now see the same thing. Looks like the last version that did not do this was 8.138, all since then are ruined. Depressing...

choppy titles are Real steel, Killer elite, Abduction

I had this problem for a month now the last few blue ray's I backed up are choppy for the entire movie. I watch the ripped file on computer "not a disc" and it is choppy so I know its from the reading. I turned off lighting recording and no more choppy but I went from 90 min reading to 5 hours.

does the video card used makes a difference? what if you use a geforce card like say gt220 and enable cuda support under encoding? and then you enable lightning encoding as well?

To use Lightning Recoding with any GPU acceleration, please update to v8.1.6.1 Qt which has a fix to improve results.

Hi Benson, can you share your movie compression % and the time it took to encode?

I am using a gt 220 and enabled software+cuda encoding. Disabled lightening recoding.

The movie is phantom menace and compressing at 73%. My time is 13 hours and counting. 0.87mb/s.

I tried running the compression with lightening recoding enabled. The time was drastically short: 2hr50 min. But i get the dreaded stutter.

                          Running windos 7. Cpu E7500 Core2Duo, and Dvdfab 8.1.6.0.
