Stops conversion to BD25 1/2 way through...

    Very odd indeed...

I have been using DVDFab for years now, but recently on backing up a couple of my new Blu-rays ('THE GAME' & 'JAWS') something REALLY weird happened that has not happened before in hundreds of backups of my Blu-rays.

What happened was that first of course I rip the entire BD50 from my retail disc to the HDD. Then I back up the MOVIE ONLY to a BD25 folder size which I will burn to back up the movie from my Blu-ray, which I've done HUNDREDS of times, but, in these two instances something REALLY weird happened. I have an older CPU and memory, so it normally takes me overnight to back up an average Blu-ray, say around 35 Gigs to a BD25. Usually about 12 hours, which is fine. So, these last 2 times the compression was running perfectly well on target at about roughly .8 M/sec. and, even hours later when I checked it, it still was converting just fine. BUT, in the morning I see in the logs that it finished way early, like at 5 A.M. with a total running time of about 6 hours instead of 12 AND the resulting folder size is only about 11 Gigs and about half the movie.

And yet, it shows the copying done 'successfully' Also, the speed of conversion that it was running as it finished was way high like 45 M/sec which is silly. All of my conversions are ALWAYS running at the same average speed when they finish which is around .7 - .8 M/sec. So, it's like around the 6 hour mark it suddenly speeds up and supposedly 'finishes', but only half the film is done. When I go to play the resulting M2TS file in the 'STREAM' folder, I only have half the film.

I am running W7 and DVDFAB 8.210 It also did this once before with the last version too with my 'HARRY POTTER: 1/2 BLOOD PRINCE' Blu-ray. DAMN WEIRD...

Any ideas WHY the hell it is doing this all of the sudden? It's funny, but in between these 2 Blu-rays I successfully copied and compressed my new Blu-ray of 'THE RING' for which the 'MOVIE ONLY' size was also around 35 Gigs, and it did just fine. It took overnight as usual, the average conversion speed was around .8 at which it also was running when it finished, and it took the usual 12 hours or so...

I haven't done anything different and I CANNOT for the life of me imagine what parameter or factor would possibly cause this behaviour. The ONLY thing that has crossed my mind is that there is only just about enough room on the target HDD to hold the BD25 folder, with little to spare, like maybe 25 Gigs free and the movie folder is usually about 23.1 Gigs or something like that (and yes, the target drive is DIFFERENT than where the full disc rip is stored) So, would that somehow trigger this behaviour? Tonight I'm gonna try again with 'THE GAME' and I've cleared a little more space, around 28 Gigs, so I'll see what happens. I've also 'Suspended' any other programs that I know of that may interfere with the overnight conversion, like I always do. I suspend my auto Cloud Backup for the night and also any AVAST AV updates; I can't think of anything else. The only other kind of different program that is running is TUNEUP UTILITIES, but I don't think it is actually doing anything on it's own.

Any help would be DEEPLY appreciated, thank you!

Moving your post to the Blu-ray Copy forum. I did hear that with the movie Hunger Games, it was necessary to make the BD25 compression step from the original disc, not a BDMV folder on your hard drive. Not sure if what you are seeing is similar or not.

No way on earth to tell what is happening without the DVDFab internal log entries from the BD50 rip and the BD25 compression.

Thank you SIGNALS; I did not realize that there was a specific part of the forum for copying Blu-rays. I guess that will teach me to check more carefully. My apologies... Also, if it happens again, I will try to access the full log and post it next time.

      Appreciate it!

Okay, I THINK I have found the log files for the last session when I tried to shrink the Blu-ray movie file using the 'MOVIE ONLY' option when I tried to convert the 35 Gig movie file to a BD25 size for 'THE GAME'

        Here is one:

I chose what I THINK is the pertinent part of this particular session; I hope I got it all. I doubt that there was any trouble at all with the initial simple ripping of the entire BD50 to the first HDD. I THINK that the trouble was in the compression session of the MOVIE ONLY to a BD25. I hope this is what is needed to help whoever is able to figure out why it did this seemingly out of the blue.

        Thanks again!
