    blu ray copy questions

Hi, im fairly new to copying blu rays and i have a couple of questions regarding the process.

The first question is in regards to Cinavia am I right in thinking for cinavia to work correctly that both the disc and the actual player has to contain in?

For example can i play a non cinavia protected blu ray disc on a cinavia protected player and vice-versa?

Lastly what is lost when you copy a BD 50 to a BD 25 does it affect the quality/sound etc because something must of been lost to store a 43 gb film on a 25gb disk etc.

Any information would be very much appreciated.

As to Cinavia, it is a watermark in the audio stream and if the player's firmware does not recognize it you'll never know it's there. A lot of us are moving away from disc players to media players because media players are unaffected.

As to how much quality is lost by compression of a 50GB to 25GB that's in the eye of the beholder and the particular disc.

The hd soundtrack can be the same. The picture is compressed but I will tell you 99 percent of every person that has seen my 60 inch plasma or my projection system that has a 8 foot picture can not tell the difference between the 50 gig and the 25 gig disks.

You can also do a 25 gig disk of the main movie only taken out the trailers etc. and have even a better picture with less compression yet.

Doing the main movie only the picture may only be 30 gigs so even less compression is used and in some cases the whole picture will fit on a 25 gig disk uncompressed at all.You can do it with 3d disks also.

After making a copy from BD 50 to BD 25 i agree that there is not a huge differenece between the two. My original idea was to keep movies as they where so 1:1 copies and tv series as BD 50 to BD 25 as there considerably longer, which is what i have just done and its pretty darn good.

Btw do you know of a way to speed up the process from copying from 50 to 25 as it took several hours compared to my 1:1 copies which took 25mins or so?

If compressing takes that much longer, you may need to look at a CPU or GPU upgrade to improve performance.

Been wanting to get a new system for a while but the one i have atm is doing everyday tasks quite well considering its a intel 2 core duo, 9800gtx+ and 4gb of low speed ram. So I might look more into getting a complete new system when i get more time if thats the case. Whats the average time it takes to compress BD 50 to BD 25 on a decent system?

I don't know what your computer uses for speed mine uses cuda and its very fast compared to software. With my slow 2 core computer it takes 13-20 hours to do a 25 gig 3d movie so your lucky with a few hours.Cuda cannot be used for full 3d movies but can be partly used in side by side 3d movies speeding them up to 3.5-4 hours for me.Regular blu rays are faster because cuda is used for the encoding and the decoding.

1-1 on 50 gig disks will always be fastest because theirs no compression just a read write job.People complain about the $4.50 a disk price for the 50 gig blanks compared to the $1.00 25 gig blanks but really think about the time you spend and most people forget the wear and tear on the computer and the costs of electric as most computers use 300-400 or more watts of electric then you end up with some coasters.Media players is my answer and other's here agree with me no more making any disks we just use very large hard drives that keep coming down in price.

Excuse my ignorance, but what exactly do you mean by a media player. From what I see here it involves a large hard drive for storage. Please walk me through it.

                      On my i7 around 45 min-1hr
You may be better off just upgrading your cpu much cheaper than buying new system what mother board do yo have?
                      I built my i7 under a $k

Dick6133:here's the media player I have note that mine does 3d movies also only some do 3d movies so if 3d is what you want or will want in the future better look at a 3d media player.

I use it with a 3t usb hard drive. Some only let you use 2t hard drives. You can plug two 3t drives into this media player. You can use this media player to play any size blu rays from iso's or folder's.Some media players do one or the other.

Compressed by Fab or not media player's will play just about any kind of audio/video file, picture's,music and also have a basic internet browser plus it's all portable so you can bring it with you wherever you go as the media player is the size of a pocket book and the 3t drive the size of a hard covered book.
This means no more making blu ray's or coaster's and saves a lot of time and wear and tear on your computer if you don't compress the movies. The output of the media player can plug into your tv using hdmi or red green blue connectors and rca optical audio jacks.

Glenns, you wouldn't happen to know how that Micca stacks up against the AIOS (which I have) would you?

No this is my first media player I went from a PlayStation to this so you see i have to say although the PlayStation was a early adapters blu ray player of choice years ago and miles ahead of everything on the market at the time it's mere training wheels to my tiny 3d media player.

I did notice on its store web page it's not for sale where as they had many models of media players only 2 did 3d. i see only a few now and no 3d ones.I wonder if they are coming out with new stuff or closing out the older models as you use to buy directly from them or Amazon.I am sending them a email to see. Here their other 3d model http://content.miccastore.com/node/233

The price did come down about $20 from when i got it.I just love it as it plays everything.Could be a close out on Amazon.Firmware was upgraded 4 times and it can use older or newer firmware another thing most can't do.The remote control isn't the best it doesn't have a wide angle on the beam it puts out and its a little week.Just to not worry about Cinavia and 3d playback issues alone is worth the price and have all my collection of over 200 3d movies on 1 drive is so great.
