DVDFab HD Decrypter (DVDFAB 8) won't start in Parallels on a Mac

(1.) First post. Hope it's in the right place.
(2.) Yes, it's an odd problem but I have reasons for what I'm doing.

Mac Mini runnning OS10.6.4 with Parallels 6 which is running Windows XP.

I have a number of Windows programs installed and they all work fine.

I wanted to try the free version of DVDFAB before considering purchase. Downloaded and installed the program successfully in Windows XP. If I right click on the icon it opens a window allowing me to access properties etc.

However when I double click on the icon to start the program, nothing happens. I get the "sand dial" symbol for a few moments which indicates that the program is attempting to do something, but then nothing.

I have done a complete re-install of Windows XP and DVDFAB 8 but the same thing happens.

I know this is an "odd" setup, but has anyone any ideas on what's (not) happening and how I fix it?

    Many Thanks.
    Robert.

Well, DVDFab isn't technically meant for running on a Mac so that might be where you're having issues, but I know there are a few people on the forums here that use a Mac and seem to be pretty successful at it, so hopefully one of them will chime in here and can maybe help you with your problem or tell you what you have to do to get it working.

I don't know beans about Macs, but Bootcamp seems the way to go...if it's supported.
I'm also not certain that Fab gets along well with emulators, particularly on a Mac.

Hopefully, as Racem22 said, we'll hear from some Mac users who can offer some real help.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

yes, it is supported. I just haven't tried it out yet. I prefer having both OSX & Windows available at the same time.

With the other Windows based programs happy running in Windows XP, inside an emulator I'm beginning to think that must be it. DVDFAB just doesn't like emulators.

I can't believe I'm the only person on the planet who has tried this. (If I am do i win a prize?). So hopefully, as you say, someone else will be able to fill in the blanks.

I don't have a Mac but I do run Wine and VirtualBox on Linux. In VirtualBox, DVDFab needs to have direct access to the optical drive(s). This is a setting I had to change in VirtualBox VM settings.

              Good luck.

                Thanks for the feedback.

I went and double chceked the Parallels settings regards accessing the optical drive and it's definite;y setup to do so. I even loaded a DVD and used VLC (in Parallels) to test playback and it accessed the drive and worked fine.

                It's very odd.

VLC is developed to run on open source so that why it worked. DVDFab is Developed to run on a Native PC with Windows. So what your trying to do is what DVDFab not Developed for. Hopefully that will change in the future.

Accessing the drive is not the same as having direct access to the drive. This is a setting in VirtualBox and Parallels may or may not have something similar.

If Parallels does have something similiar, I'm dashed if i can locate it. I've checked and rechecked such settings and tried a few variations, all to no avail.

Oh well, just have to keep looking ....

You may have more luck on a MAC/Parallels forum than here.

I work very very fine and fast ,on MAC OSX and DVDFab 8.0.2.4b under WINE 1.2 , only 2 Hours maximum, to rip somes bd50 to BD25 or BD9

But honestly ,i never decrypted a BD on Mac OSX and DVDFab, only decrypted previously downloaded to HD for compression

Try (other software) to decrypt BD on MAC OSX, and DVDFab to recode or some ,if DVDfab canĀ“t do alone

If DVDFab can access the drive it should be able to decrypt the disc.
