DVD9 Compression Issues

Hi there

Got a Blue ray disc and was using the option to convert it to DVD9. Went by standard stuff through the menu and just selected DVD9 disc at the bottom, it went and did its thing but ultimately the DVD9 Size was bigger than what Imgburn, Nero or any other burner could handle for the normal DVD9 disc. I have even tried to customize the size to 8000 and it still doesn't copy, burns as 8010.

Unfortunately I am a real newbie at this stuff so I tried to look at the log but I have so many entries with testing this stuff I don't know what to paste in here.

Any solutions would be highly appreciated,

What kind of message did you get from ImgBurn when you tried to burn it. If the logs are hard to follow, try it again with the same content and the most recent log (for the dvdfab internal log) will be at the end of the file. Please include the ImgBurn log also.

Also my DVD-R DL is showing as 7.95GB in windows my computer, running Vista 32bit and also in Nero it shows it as 8100 and the DVD 9 file as 8152 or so. I have tried multiple DVD-R DL discs from the same spindle.

This is the log file for DVD FAB, for some reason the same error is not showing as it did last time. I am using Write data option, so have DVD9 files on HDD.

Ok for starters you using DVD-R DL those are very rare as the most commonly used DL media is DVD+R DL and as well DVD-R DL has less available space than DVD+R DL media has so you need to go into common settings and change the write selection to DL DVD-R 8103mb as it seems you have DVD+R DL selected and you not using that blank media

One Question - What is the best way / settings to get the best quality from a Blu ray - DVD conversion, is there anything else I can change in the setting. Also would DVD+R have better quality than -R.

Tried again with DVD9 -R settings but still didn't work......Wanted to double check where exactly I changed the setting could you guys please guide me.......

No settings will change the quality of the finished DVD as you are compressing and changing the format so will have a great deal of quality loss but the finished DVD will have a better picture quality than a bought DVD.

As for DVD+R DL having better quality that would be NO but they are used more than the DVD-R DL you are using. No need to keep posting logs as it seems to be the DVD-R DL media you using that is a problem

Edit:
Since windows sees the DVD-R DL as 7.95gb then you will need to use 1000mb less for the settings in DVDFab for the write size. So use a custom size of 8000mb again and use the VSO burn engine that came bundled with DVDFab as it may be ImgBurn having problem with the layer break as DVD-R DL has problems for layer break position as it can not be changed. You will be better off getting DVD+R DL media as it not reccommended to use DVD-R DL for DVD Video

I agree with AGJ its the -R media your using. I do believe -R is better for data storage such as computer backups and photos etc. I always use +R media for DVD backing up.

Definitely take AGJ's advice.
Dump the -R DL media, you'll have nothing but problems with the layer break.
We recommend Verbatim +R DL, MIS (made in Singapore) is preferred, but MII (made in India) beats a crapshoot with other brands.
