    Dual Layered?

I have a DVD that is apparently dual-layered. (I haven't kept up with all the technology). When I copy it on to my hard drive it is nearly 6 GB. When I try to copy it onto a single layer -R or +R, it copies then fails to write.

I started playing with the DVD write compression and shifted it to 4488, then all the way down to custom 4000; all with the same problem.

I changed to using the imgburn engine, hoping that would enable the compression. Alas, still no luck. I have written a dual-layered copy that will work on my computer, but my old DVD player doesn't play it.

I'm obviously missing something in getting the compression to work. Attached are my log files. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes you do. In order for DVDFab to compress your content you have to select output size as "DVD5".
And BTW, keep ImgBurn as your burning engine.

Yup, as my good friends pointed out, your
          Source File Size: 5,065,703,424 bytes
          exceeds SL media limits,
ie., source = 4831 MB and the max recommended Fab SL write size = 4472 MB

Not to toss in a red herring, but what is your E: drive?
Your temp files are located in C:, I'm assuming D: is HP's windoz partition, and F: is your burner.

E: is FAT32 and as such cannot handle files larger than 4 GB.
Not sure why Img is logging this.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Sorry, missed your last post, guess I was trying to post at the same time
I'm also fooling with a dying heat pump...

Please rip this disc to your hdd.
Use a location on your hdd as Fab's Target and not your burner.

Please check in Common Settings > DVD / Blu-ray > Write and verify that your Writable media (DVD-5) size is set at 4300 MB.
It should be since that's what Fab is telling us.

Anyway, try ripping to the hdd with these settings and let us know the resultant file size on the hdd.

            Thanks

              Same on HDD

Attached is the properties tab from the "new" video_ts. Still 5GB.

Thanks for trying - what next?

If the disc has lots of non-DVD files (outside the VIDEO_TS folder) they will not be taken into account in the compression. Make sure you check the box to copy DVD-Video only.

                  Still no luck

                  DVD-Video Only

I have tried copying to HDD before with compression and even after multiple rounds - I'm only compressing about 1-2% each time.

Previous properties screen shot was of Video_TS. Only file types in folder are .BUP, .ISO, .VOB. DVD is a training video and does contain a number of 'still' shots - View the slide, push play, see the video.... view the next slide, push play, see the next video.

I've been successful on ripping each video out separately as .avi.

This screen shot shows DVD-Video Only checked.

I've tried previous versions besides 8QT with the same results. That really confuses me. Anything in Windows 7 that might block it?

                    Hi buckley15
Even though Path Player should disable itself if no main movie is found, try disabling it yourself, to do this Open Fab Click the Green top right > Protection > Path Player click Disable Path Player click OK restart Fab and try again, just remember to set it back to Always Enabled.
                    Hope this helps

With so much non-DVD movie stuff on the disk I think your best bet is a 1:1 clone of that disk to a like sized blank.

Training or "lesson" discs have very odd authoring in many cases. PathPlayer is designed more for movie-disc authoring and will often wrongly interpret short PGCs as "annoying" and remove them, or in some cases view them as unplayabale content. I agree with 90312 that Clone mode would be better for this disc if you want the lessons to work correctly.

                          Pathfinder off

I tried manually turning Pathfinder off and it didn't seem to matter. (Screenshot).

I understand the 1-1 Clone, but have a DVD player that apparently doesn't like dual layered disks.

Sounds like I'm stuck buying a new DVD player or Ripping the videos and putting them back together.

I appreciate the help so far, any other ideas?

Most all DVD movies are DL disks, it may be that you need to be sure you are using +R DL disks and changing the booktype to DVD-ROM, which is the same as a purchased DVD movie.
