'Failed to open M:\' on Windows 7

I just updated my system from Windows XP to Windows 7, and reinstalled DVDFab 8.2.1.8 QT.

When I started DVDFab in XP, it would start loading the DVD/BD. Now when I start it in Windows 7, nothing happens, and when I manually try to select the drive, I get an error 'Failed to open M:\. Please check if it's playable'.

Again, this worked with the same hardware in XP. Any thoughts on what I can change?

Also, I used the same version (8.2.1.8 QT) on both versions of Windows, as well as using the same license key.

Can you browse the disc if you use Windows Explorer?

Yes. I can see all the files.

I changed the drive letters to see if it would make a difference. It didn't. The DVD & BD drives are now F & G. These are the logs from startup. At 2m37s I tried to load F:

The folder you are trying to open on F: is either not DVD-Video compliant or corrupted somehow. The "css attach" log entry means that as far as DVDFab can tell the file does not exist (this is the first file it looks for). Sounds like something is interfering with DVDFab I/O, check for a conflict in the autoplay list or the device filter drivers in the registry ("Tools->Filter driver load order" in ImgBurn to check or delete).

1) The files on F: are there. If I use Windows Explorer, I can navigate to them.
2) I've disabled AutoPlay under Hardware and Sound.
3) What do I check in the registry?
4) I get an rights error with ImgBurn. Although I am an Administrator on the machine.

The files may be there but DVDFab can't see them. The ImgBurn log confirms that you have some sort of I/O problem on the machine, Img can't access the optical drives either. I don't think Admin permissions should be necessary to open an optical drive, but you could try running DVDFab or ImgBurn using "Run As...Administrator" from the context menu.

If you pop a DVD into one of those drives with no applications running, does something pop up on your desktop?

Install DVDFab Inspector (free, here: http://forum.dvdfab.com/showthread.php?t=18678 and see if it can find the drives. If so, check the Filter Driver tab and see what is on the list.

Additional thought: If this machine has an IDE controller, make sure all the drives, magnetic and optical, are set for one of the UDMA transfer modes, not PIO. Reboot if you change these settings.

Thanks. Using 'Run As Administrator' works, even though the account if an Administrator. Weird. At least I have a workaround until I find why that's happening.

I eventually just enabled the real Administrator account, and am using that. Thanks again.

You are welcome. It is very important in cases like yours (multiple accounts) to run the DVDFab installer and DVDFab itself either from the admin user account or As Administrator. Glad you are working now.
