Help - Access Violation Error Halts DVDFAB

    I need some assistance:
While trying to Clone (backup) a double layer DVD onto a blank double layer Memorex (Ricoh) DVD, the reading process appears to go correctly. When the writing process starts, the following error is displayed - "access violation at address 09BA177F in module 'vso_hwe.dll'. read of address 0B740000" and writing halts. After closing the error box the process clock display continues to run but nothing else occurs. This occurs using only the internal TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS-L633B drive to read/write and also with an external Sony DRX-S70U-W drive as the writer. I am unable to open the internal DVD burner after inserting the blank disc for writing until I shut down DVDFAB.

The ISO file in the \TEMP\CLONE directory seems to play OK when burned to DL DVD with Windows' DVD Burner; I suspect the layer break has not been preserved.

DVDFAB worked OK on this machine under Win Vista Home Premium 64 bit, has never worked after a clean OEM upgrade install of Win7 Home Premium 64 bit. DVDFAB is a properly licensed copy. I have only tried to use the Clone feature; apparently the DVDs I tried writing are no longer blank and I don't need any more coasters so I haven't tested further.

    AMD Turion 64 X2 QL-64
    4GB RAM
Win7 Home Premium 64bit, current with updates

log entries are from the latest try using the Sony external drive as the writer: I do not understand the "User provided Layer break value" entry as I did not provide anything.

    Hi dsbrantjr and welcome,

    A few thoughts...
The D01 media is crap. The older D00's from Ricoh weren't too bad, but were still marginal and are no longer around anyway.
Pick up some Verbatim +R DL's...the only consistently recommended DL media.

The layer should be preserved in clone mode regardless of any internal settings to preserve or not.

Dump VSO as your burn utility.
    Recommend Img.
Here is an excellent video tutorial on how to set up Fab and Img. The thread includes a download link as well.

I would also stick with the external sony for burns.

    //Edit
I'm stuck at work and I gotta run.
    Good luck

Sorry you are having trouble. The log indicates a nonsense number was passed as the layer break position, which may continue even if you use ImgBurn (which I will join my pal Maineman in recommending). I would suggest that you install ImgBurn and let us know what happens.

dsbrantjr, also your samsung needs a firmware update http://www.firmwarehq.com/download_1..._SC01.exe.html

CBR929: Thanks for the tip, however when I run the executable I get a message "The firmware is not compatible with the selected drive" The model number looks correct, is the driver not suitable for Win7? The current driver is ver 6.1.7600.16385, dated 6/21/2006 from Microsoft. Thanks, dsbrantjr.

Maineman, signals: I installed ImgBurn as you suggested and set it up per your instructions. I set the burn speed at 4X (max is shown as 6X) and got another coaster for my collection. The ImgBurn log file did not capture the errors which came up but there was a problem with the layer break user input (I didn't make any inputs); after manually getting past that the DVD wouldn't close out after 3 automatic and 3 manual retries. The resulting DVD sort of plays but hangs up/stammers in places during playback, requiring fast-forwarding past the bad spots. This was using the Sony external drive for writing. I was not successful in updating the internal drive with the TS-L633B_SC01.exe driver update as stated above. Any thoughts as to how I should
          proceed? Thanks, dbrantjr.
