    Can't Open DVDs after upgrade

After installing the latest version I can't open any DVDs. The DVD drive will show in the Target dropdown but not in the source. If I browse to the DVD drive in DVDFab, the popup that reads the DVD comes up for a moment and then just disappears. I 've tried on multiple DVDs, even ones I've previously ripped and DVDFab just doesn't read them. Interestingly enough I can browse to the ripped DVD on my harddrive and DVDFab reads those. The DVD drive appears to be working fine otherewise. I can watch DVDs from iTunes or WMP/WMC, I can read and write to it from windows... just not DVDFab.

I've copied in the dvdfab_burn_vso.log as the forums will not allow me to attach it.

Can't say this will solve your problem but your dvd drive has a firmware update http://www.firmwarehq.com/Sony/DRU-820A/files.html maybe someone else has an idea on this one?

That's an awfully old firmware update. I'm not sure if it's already applied or if the flash utility isn't compatable with Windows 7 (since it's pre Vista) but it said there was nothing to update. Thank you though.

It's frustrating. The drive is obviously working. I can browse to it and even see the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders in DVDFab. DVDFab just won't use it.

true it is old but your log shows "SONY DVD RW DRU-820A 1.0a [D] (Ide)" so its not applied and you're most likely right the installer isn't compatible with win.7 but still that may not be the problem, just caught my eye is all. some other suggestions would be to d/l IMGBurn and test the drive with that. check out Troy512's video on how to set it up http://forum.dvdfab.com/showthread.php?t=12 sorry I can't be of more help. hang in there and maybe someone with more experience will suggest something else.

          Hi hairlessmonkey and welcome,

You might take a look at Common Settings > Read > I/O Mode.
Select SPTI and if already selected...try ASPI.

If no luck, have you tried uninstalling the burner in device manager? then just reboot, windows will reinstall and should assign the correct drivers.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Thank you guys for the responses. I'm not really used to forums where people actually answer. That's outstanding.

Interestingly enough, some hours after last trying it, Windows 7 displayed a message saying that Windows noticed that the program hadn't run correctly, that it applied different settings to it, and if I had noticed problems with it, to now re-run it. Low and behold DVDFab worked fine after that. Also something I have to say I'm not quite used to.

Win7 uses or makes the same settings changes that Vista does or uses
