    skipping in deja vu

I have spent the past two days trying to burn deja vu to my hard drive. I have read numerous forums and I understand the point concerning the two movie files and the need to copy the smaller one to eliminate the directors commentary. I am creating a database on my computer of all my dvd's. I am trying to copy just the main movie. The problem is when i chose dvd to dvd it burns ok. then when i try to play it with media center 7 it skips at just under 5 minutes in to the film. This conincides with one of the points where the director commentary cuts out to a scene where they demonstate how the blew up the ferry. I have tried burning full disc and the same thing happens. Anyone know what to do?

I just checked this and I'm not having this problem with my Deja Vu but mine is R4.

What version of Fab are you running? Update to latest beta if you haven't already.

Make sure you have PathPlayer in the "Always Enabled" mode. I made a backup of the Region 1 disc with no problem, but it was with an earlier version of DVDFab. Use the Preview window to make sure you have the correct title selected.

Little confused need clarification, are you playing a BACKUP DISC or are you trying to play the ripped files directly from the HARD DRIVE ?

If the ripped files play fine directly from the HD then it has to do with either how you are making the ISO or burning it ! I assume you are playing a BACKUP disc as you keep mentioned BURNING, try playing from the HD to see if it skips !

I am ripping the movie to a hard drive. Then i play the ripped files from the hd using MC from windows 7. No matter what I do the movie continuously skips (does not movie forward, but keeps skipping like a broken record). I am using the most recent beta version of dvdfab. I tried an older version, same problem. I tried returning the disc and getting a new one, same problem. I read several forums and made sure I selected the correct file to copy the "main movie" option. I even tried just copying the full disc. I then played the retail dvd from the dvd drive and selected the directors commentary. I then noticed that each place the ripped movie skips corresponds to an exact moment where the directors commentary interrupts the film and demonstate how that scene was filmed. So i know the problem somehow lies with the directors commentary. Sorry about the confusion, I should have said "ripped." I'm new to this and trying to build a home theater PC. Have never tried to burn a disc. I have successfully ripped almost a hundred of my movies to this hard drive and this is the first movie I have failed. Don't want to give up.

what happens if you use clone, then try a main movie from the clone ISO.

It fails halfway through the second step. Another thing I don't understand. I pick the smaller file when I'm ripping the main movie. If i play it with wmc it skips. If i play the HD file with Power dvd it shows the director's cut away from the movie to show the "making of" video where it skips if i play the same HD file with WMC.

on 08-05-2007 i backed up deja vu R1 using customize mode title 1

here is what i posted in another forum

after reading some backup problems with deja vu i decided to try mine. well i had the same exact problem as you did. however i was able to play the directors commentarty. i tried again this time using the customize feature and select title #1. worked great! also i read where signals has sent fengtao some information to help prevent this in a future release.

on a side note the original will not work in one of my standalone players, however the backup will. great work guys!!!
seems like you problem is not all that unfamiliar. this was two post down from mine.

I’m watching with VLC, but if I use MPC, then the sound doesn’t cut out, but the picture slightly blurs. It’s not a bad burn because I didn’t burn it.

                Any ideas?
the release note logs dont go back far enough so i cant see which version was the fix.

try burning it to disc. seems another user had skipping problems in the rip but the backup played fine in the dvd player.

I realize this thread is pretty old, but I also cannot get Deja Vu to Rip properly. At first I tried to Rip it with 6.2.0.5, Path Player enabled, Region 1, Main Movie, and it would cut into the Directors commentary when the ferry was about to explode. This was at approximately the 4 minute and 32 second mark. I then tried to Rip the movie with version 6.0.4.0, Path Player enabled, Region 4, Main Movie, and it would hang up at the 4 minute and 32 second mark. I then Burned the movie per Troy512 with IMG and it still hung up at the 4 minute and 32 second mark. I realize this probably isn't a top 100 movie for many of the members on this Forum, but my family likes it and I would feel a whole lot better knowing that I had it backed up and didn't need to lose sleep when my kids use the disc as a coaster.

Just one other item- I have tried using both title "1" and title "2" and with the same results. Title 2 injects a lot more of the Directors Commentary. However, either title still doesn't Rip properly.

If any members remember the steps to back up this movie I would be greatly appreciated. I hate to lose when it comes to this. I am sure you all can understand this.

                  Thanks,
                  Tom
