Problem ripping "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs"

I'm new to DVD Fab. I recently downloaded DVD Fab 6.2.1.8. I have the full version not the trial. I put a movie in my DVD Drive (Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs) and ran DVD Fab. I selected DVD to DVD, and then chose Full Disc. It began to copy. It has been 34 hours since it started. It is still copying!!! I'm at 82.51% with 7 Hours and 42 Minutes left to go according to DVD Fab. Why is this taking so long? Is there a problem with DVD Fab? Most of my DVD's I can copy in about 6-15 Minutes in DVD Shrink. I only bought DVD Fab to copy the newer movies that DVD Shrink won't copy. Please someone help me find an answer to why this is taking so darn long to backup my movies. Thanks in advance.

P.S. Will leaving my laptop to copy a DVD for 20+ hours harm my PC/DVD Drive/Anything Else

go to settings general and at the right hand side at the bottom click the reset DMA button as it sounds like your computer went into the PIO mode

I'll try that Jimbo, and thanks for your advice. I'll be sure to reply back to tell you if that fixed it or not. Also, sorry Maineman...I'm not very good with Forums. Not really sure how to start a new one. So I looked for one that seemed like it fit my topic so as not to intrude with an off the wall topic. But thanks for moving this for me. =)

I did this and it worked beautify. Only took about 36 Minutes to copy my DVD. When it was finished I put Caymore Volume 03 in, which is an anime DVD containing several episodes. It got to about 80% and then slowed down again...It is still copying just extremely slow as before. I have clicked nothing. My rip is at 86.45% with an elapse time of 8 Hours and 15 Minutes. The rate (Speed) is 0.03MB/s. According to DVD Fab I must wait 13 Hours for my movie to finish. I did not put it in PIO, or whatever you called it. So how do I fix this one? What is the PIO mode, what is it for, and likewise what is DMA and what is it for. Why, if it did, did my laptop go back to PIO? Also, can I fix it while my DVD is ripping...I really don't want to start the rip over, be nice if I could fix it and continue the rip where I left off. Thanks.

sageraziel what is your operating system on your laptop? This may also be heat related if doing a rip and burn right after each other, is there anyway you can monitor your temp on your computer? You can download this program and monitor your temps .

This has to do with rate of data transfer.
It is totally a function of Windoz.
As your burner encounters CRC errors, the speed at which data transfer occurs, is sequentially decreased with each CRC error eventually locking your driver in PIO mode.
It becomes essentially useless for ripping dvds and will just error out.

Please take a look in the link in my sig (below) entitled:

It aslo could be that you are trying to rip a DVD that has a scratch on it or it is dirty try cleaning the DVD and check it for scratches as they will cause your computer to revert to PIO mode as well

The disc is clean, but there are a lot of scratches. I didn't think that should make a difference though, because I've copied DVD's with 6x the scratches on this one. Arg, DVD Fab is so complicated. I'll take a look at Maineman's links and see if I can figure something out. Thanks for the help guys...Bet I'll be keeping this thread hot with my newbie questions. lol

Downloaded and tried the quick fix thing from your link Maineman. When I ran it it told me there were no DMA things to fix..."Nothing was changed.". So...I also looked at your thread. I read the steps and have tried all that. I don't understand why none of this is working. Any other ideas on what I could do to try to fix it?

Fab really isn't complicated for DVD to DVD...pretty much a 1-2 click piece of software. That's one of the great features of Fab.

Anyway, lets roll up our sleeves a bit.
Please post 1-2 burn logs from previous successful attempts...failed burns are ok too as long as the burn process actually started.
This will give us an idea of waht we're dealing with, eg., your burner, firmware, blank media ID, etc.

                        The default location is:
                        C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\My Documents\DVDFab\Log

This DVD might have a deeper scratch than the other DVDs you have done. Try watching the original DVD to see if it plays correctly because if a scratch is causing the problem then the DVD Player will freeze or skip scenes as well

It would work perfectly fine until about 86%. Anyway, I gave up on that disc and tried a different movie and it worked fine. It's now copied three other movies without issue, so I'm assuming it's the disc itself.

Now onto yet another issue. After copying my movie using DVD to DVD then DVD to File I used DVDShrink to turn the DVD Files into a ISO File small enough to fit on my DVD+R disc. (4.7GB) It did so and I burned it using DVD Decryptor. The movie plays and everything but is very low quality. It looks like a glitchy VHS tape. I know this is not due to DVD Shrink or DVD Decryptor because I've been using those now for sometime and it's been producing almost exact copies for me. So is there a certain setting, or mode I should copy in? I was thinking about trying HD DVD as my setting instead of DVD to DVD. What do you think Maineman? By the way, thank you for all your support. These forums sure are friendly about helping people...Unlike countless others I've been to.
