What size does it come out to if you rip the main movie only?

just picked up this movie & of course saw the DVD5 'too big' problem .... but simply used 6.2.1.8 (i'm sure 7 level should work just fine) to put whole disk on HD ... then used DVDShrink to select & compress movie to a DVD5 size .... haven't burned yet but 3 different media players play movie off HD just fine so this is easy workaround for everyone until fix for compress problem is out ... jak

Rips to 4.87Gb using DVD5 setting...

It rips to 4.87Gb using 6.2.1.8 or 7.0.3.0...and the back-up has serious compression artifacts when played off the HDD. Look at about 1:48:00 when Rachel McAdams is on the bridge. It is really obvious at that point. I don't think this is a bug in DVDFab. It looks like a copy protection scheme.

I'm going to re-rip it using the DVD9 setting and then use Shink and see if the artifact problem improves.

This has nothing to do with the size problem but...

This has nothing to do with the size problem, but I placed the DVD in my main system (OPPO 983H with HDMI to a 52" Samsung LCD) scaled to 1080p and this is possibly one of the worst film to DVD transfers I've ever seen! The whole thing is rife with artifacts right on the original disc.

again, what i did was use dvdfab to rip whole disk (tho you maybe can just do movie only), then use dvdshrink to do select/compress movie , (result was usual ~4.35Gb), then burn result with imageburn to dvd5 ... no problems ...
... put disk onto big screen & it sure looked good to me, couldn't see any artifacting ...
.... but maybe something else going on with other's copies ... jak

.. i should have reiterated in last post that i did indeed use DVD9 size to do 1st step rip to HD ... i think that's important & probably source or your artifact problem ... jak

                  Here's the deal...

                  Here's the deal:

1.) The film to DVD transfer is pretty crappy to start with.

2.) The DVDFab rip to back-up at the DVD5 setting (output = 4.87Gb) produces horrific artifacts. Further compression with DVD Shrink makes them even worse! Look at 1:48:00 in the film and they are obvious.

3.) Ripping with DVDFab to back-up at the DVD9 setting "Main Movie" produces an output of 5.10Gb and any artifacts are exactly the same as on the original disc.

4.) Compressing the DVD9 HDD back-up with DVD Shrink results in a 4.35Gb copy that has minor artifact issues, but is far superior to the 4.87Gb DVD5 DVDFab version.

So, until this is resolved, I suggest the following:

1.) Make an HDD back-up with DVDFab using the DVD9 setting.

2.) Then burn it to a DVD9 or, compress it with DVD Shrink and then burn a DVD5 back-up. I chose to go the DVD5 route as the difference in artifacts is minimal and there is only so much lipstick you can put on this pig of a transfer anyway...

Yep, same issue. I was hoping a new version would be out today to fix it. Hopefully Fengtao gets one out quickly.

Maybe he has to return the disk and if that is the case, that is totally against the forum rules.

Doh... you are supposed to wait until after they admit that.

I just extracted this disc with 6.2.1.8, I see none of the problems being mentioned.

Did Full Disc > DVD9, PP always enabled, folder after extraction is 5.84Gb, the movie titleset adds up to 5.49Gb.

I see no artifacts .... the extracted files are flawless, including frames @ 1:48:00

I will be editing it with PgcEdit to remove unwanted junk, keep some of the previews as the Titleset for th previews is only 333,xxx Kb

Will let you know final size after i edit

PS: Don't forget to remove the unwanted audio tracks to gain addition space !!
