dvdfab doesn't like lite-on drive?

    dvdfab doesn't like lite-on drive?

    I'm using a Lite On BDROM DH4O1S firmware 2P53. Version 7.0.4 of DVDFab. I've used DVDFab as a trial on a different machine and it's been fine. But for some reason it won't work with this drive. I've heard something about switching ATAPI controllers, but I don't see any good reason to do that. The drive plays blu-rays fine, plays dvds fine and so on.

    Seems like DVDFab doesn't like my drive. Anyone else have this experience? Anyone have a suggestion? Can't be the firmware, I can't upgrade that, there's only one firmware upgrade anyway and I bought this drive 7 months after that firmware patch showed up. So it's very very unlikely that firmware will do anything -- other than give me a brick.

    Tried turning off PathPlayer. No go.

    The log looks like this:

    Same results with Caddyshack and Office Space, 2 movies that are pretty old so I imagine their CP is weak.

    Please post info from all the logs if there are any others. What kind of controller does your system have for the drive and what is the drive's physical interface? Have you tried reading a Blu-ray disc with it from within DVDFab? Do you have any other disc reading/burning software installed that may have placed filters in your registry? And what is your OS?

      No other logs are altered when I open a DVD.

      I'm not sure what you mean by what kind of controller the drive is using... elaborate?

      The drive interface is SATA.

      Windows 7 Pro.

      I have other ripping software installed: RipIt4Me / DVD Decrypter. Don't know if that would put filters in my registry. I searched for PxHlpa64.sys, asapiW2k.sys and Clbstor.sys in my system32 dir and didn't find any. The install of Win7 is pretty new, within last 3 months and I don't install a lot of stuff on this sytem, it's just for media. Point being it shouldn't have much in the way of junk.

      Good call on the blu-ray rip. It worked fine. Or, it is working so far, right now.

        IDE, AHCI ???...RAID configuration?

          Fengtao has added some new items to the logs, please try it to failure and look again, particularly for the dvdfab_internal.log and the process log if there is one. When you have time, start task manager and watch the Processes tab. Start DVDFab with no discs in the drive. Look and see if you see dvdfab.exe and fabcore.exe on the list. Now put a DVD in the drive and let it begin to analyze. Try to see if either process vanishes and if so, which one disappears first. We are assuming that this drive is on a bus, not a network.

            OK, reinstalled Fab 7070.

            My test DVD is The Iron Giant, which is about 10 years (at least) old.

            Start DVDFab with no disc in drive. There is no fabcore.exe (using "show processes from all users" = true). There is a dvdfab.exe.

            I put a DVD in drive but dvdfab.exe didn't disappear (not surprising).

            Then, in DVDFab (trial) I select DVD to DVD. Source, select the BDROM drive. Select USA for region. Brief flash of a small blue rectangular window then nothing.

            So those logs aint much help.

            The drive is not on a network, it's installed on the SATA bus in the same computer that DVDFab is installed on.

            I was able to use this drive to decrypt DVDs using DVD Decrypter (as part of Ripit4me).

              Motherboard is an EVGA E7150. Not using RAID. BD drive is installed on SATA.

              I am able to use this drive to watch DVDs and Bluray movies. I use Arcsoft Total Media Theatre.

                  maybe uninstall the drive in device manager and let windows reinstall then restart computer and let windows reinstall and then see if DVDfab will see the drive

                      Do you by any chance have ASPI selected in Fab's I/O settings?
                      Please change to SPTI...if no go, try

                      Common Settings > DVD / Blu-ray > Read > I/O Mode

                        When I opened that settings tab, it was set to Auto. So clearly that didn't work.

                        I changed it to SPTI. Same results as before. Nothing in the logs that shed any light.

                        I then thought, what the heck I'll change it to ASPI. This is what happens now (keep in mind that I'm running 7070 trial):

                        1. Start program
                        2. Select DVD to DVD
                        3. Program loads main screen and instantly crashes. There's no way to change the setting back to what it was.

                        Now I'll have to reinstall the software to get it working again. QA fail. I'm wasting a lot of time on this software and just about to give up.
