dvd will not play with imgburn

Had a problem burning DVD's, now I use imgburn, which works fine but DVD will not play in DVD player (states: -no disc-), only playable on computer.

Do believe I burn in 'region free' but where can I check this? Other things that can go wrong?

    Thanx.

    Help Us Help You

If you are posting about an operational problem with one of the DVDFab products, you will improve the speed and accuracy of the response by providing some information in the very first post that will probably be needed.

First, make note of any error codes or messages that appear in popup boxes and put them in your post. Information on error codes that appear in the DVDFab UI are captured in one of the logs we request below.

DVDFab keeps logs of its activities that supply basic system information and can help pinpoint where and when an error happened and help pinpoint the cause. The default location for these logs on most Windows systems is:

    C:\Documents and Settings\your username\My Documents\DVDFab\Log

The logs are simple text files that can be opened with Windows Notepad if you want to read them. If the size exceeds the forum’s attachment size limit, you may need to delete older entries or copy and paste the relevant ones into a new file. The log files can be attached to a post using the "Manage Attachments" button below the editing box.

dvdfab_burn_vso.log Attach for all problems. The entries are time stamped with the most recent at the top.

dvdfab_burn_imgburn.log Attach if you have ImgBurn set as the burning engine and the problem concerns disc burning. Time stamped with the most recent at the bottom.

dvdfab_process.log Attach if DVDFab crashes and the crash report window does not come up or complete correctly or if internal error codes appear in the DVDFab window (“Task Failed…”). Time stamped, most recent at the bottom.

dvdfab_internal.log Attach for all problems. Time stamped, most recent at the bottom. Please edit to include only the most recent or relevant log session.

    Other Information:

Depending on the nature of the problem, it can help to know:
If this happens with all discs or just one
    Your operating system/CPU/memory configuration
If you are using external hard drives or optical drives
If you have made any recent changes to your OS or system hardware
If you have other DVD or BD software installed, particularly if recently added.

Posts with all the requested information will be answered first.

windows 7 64 bit, HP notebook with onboard DVD writer, problem occurs with all DVD, no problems are logged. The DVD just don't work on my DVD player.

I now use DVD fab to make an iso file and burn this with easy2go on a DVD, works fine than.

Everything in DVDFab is logged basically. They're located in C:\Users\Your Username\My Documents\DVDFab\Log\ in Windows Vista/7 and in the Documents & Settings folder in Windows XP. If there's nothing wrong thats fine I just figured it would help you out in the future to know where the logs are.

No reports on failures from imgburn nor dvdfab, the dvd is properly burned but just not playable in any dvd player.

Use same hardwareburner to burn .iso file on same type DVD=playable in DVD, so I guess imgburn is the faulty party.

Well if you want help from us then post the logs as specified in the posts above. I doubt imgburn is the problem.

Well, part of the problem is that you haven't posted the logs and that HP & Notebook drives are notorious for problems & incompatability.

Well, there are two things you should be looking at for a start.

The Ritek blanks are crap. Do yourself a favour and buy some Verbatims and you have eliminated one problem area.

Also, you are burning at MAX speed which is also a no no. Set your burn speed to either half the rated speed of your burner or blank media whichever is the LESSER as a start point.

Also, as pointed out before, internal drives in portables always seem to cause probles, notably HP.

Perhaps an additional problem, something to consider anyway.
                      You have the following error:
10:25:01 Drive E:\ (FAT32) does not support single files > 4 GB in size.

Since you are ripping to an .ISO file a FAT32 hdd is a problem and restricted to about 4 GB for a single file size

What is the location of your temporary directory?
What is your e: drive?...is this just your windows partition?
or is this an additional drive or partition that you're ripping to?
If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

All I know is that I use 'standard' settings in dvd fab, iso goes to C: my documents/dvdfab/iso

e: drive is a partition on the HDD from HP tools.

I have put the settings to x4 speed but still it burns at full speed... Why i don't know

If your burning with Imgburn you need to open Imgburn first and select mode at the top then select write.

Once in write mode select 4x for the write speed and from there on it sticks.

Close Imgburn and reopen it, go back to write mode and you should see it is still on 4x.

Once DVDfab is ready to burn using Imgburn it will pop up with a window saying do you want to burn at 4x, this closes by itself after 20 seconds or so or u can just click on yes, and select never ask again if you wish.

                          Hope this helps.

The HP support/restore partition is often FAT32 (it is on my dv8t), a bad place for temp or ISO files, as maineman pointed out.
