WH10LS30 DVD+R Dual Layer Media Compatability

I've been using DVDFAB for years now. I had an LG BH08LS20 and a DVD burner (can't remember model right now) in my machine. I just c/o the DVD burner with a new LG WH10LS30. This new drive is having problems recognizing my trusty TDK DVD+R DL dual layer blank media. I get the message to insert media into the drive (even though it's in there). I did have one successful recognition out of 20 or 30 tries. Wondering if I can get some help to determine if this is a software or hardware issue.

Does your OS recognize the drive? Install ImgBurn if you don't have it already, you can put the blank media in the drive with ImgBurn in Write mode and it will tell you what the drive is reporting about the media. It may be a firmware problem. If you have another drive, try it.

Bad firmware is unusual with an LG drive, I have two of them. Bad media more likely as a guess. Try some Verbatims.

I tried many things last night - guess I need a reboot. As I recall I don't even think the TDK DL DVD's were recognized in my older LG burner either. I did fire up IMGBURN it also had problems - when I clicked on the space calculator it didn't work since it didn't recognize the disk.

My old DVD only burner had no problems with these discs. Maybe I'll take your suggestion and try some other brand of DL DVD's.

I used ImgBurn to check the new drive. I threw seven different disc's at it. It only has problems with the TDK DVD+R DL 8x. It will recognize it about every sixth time I load it. I think I will return it for a replacement (my other LG drive recognizes it every time).

Another drive may work, but I would still urge you to consider the Verbatim 8X DL blanks. You may have gotten a bad spindle of the TDKs.
