Is It Possible To Completely Copy Dvd?

I've been trying out this product (free version), and pretty happy with the results. However, I am a bit disappointed in that I can't not produce an exact copy of my dvd. I want the interactive menus, and bonus features like audio commentaries.

Is this not possible? I've selected customize, DVD9, full contents, and yet, the copy only plays the movie itself. No way to select chapters.

    Try Clone Mode.

    From the product description:

"7.Clone: Make perfect 1:1 bit-to-bit copy of DVDs:
◦Make perfect dual layer DVD copy by using the original layer break position.
◦Copy data DVD disc, like PS2 DVD."
If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Full Disc mode will also do this, slightly faster than Clone mode and not quite the same thing, but you wind up with all the content and controls that are on the original disc.

Like maineman said try Clone Mode for 1:1 Copy of DVD. I always use the Full Disc and have no problem getting what you want so maybe double check and make sure you not select Main Movie by mistake

Weird, I've tried both full disc and clone. I tried this on Battlestar Galactica, and again it just starts playing the episodes, no menus or chapter selects available.

            Bummer!
It sounds like it's a result of the way the disc is authored.
Out of curiosity, when you attempted clone mode, did you tick

Is this the only disc that has had this problem?

Well, I have done all disks, all seasons, all movies of BSG and have not had this problem.

There is obviously something else going on here.

Are you trying to play it from your hard disk rip or from a burnt DVD?

              Try this:-

Rip one of the BSG disks which you are having problems with to a folder on your hard disk in Full Disk mode.

Use either VLC or Media Player Classic Homecinema to play the "FOLDER" not the files and report back on the results. Also include the details on the disk that you use as a test so I can double check it here.

It works with VLC! I was trying to play it from the hard drive with my western digital media player which I guess can only play the direct video files. Looks like my only option is to burn the files to dvd. I want to view them on my tv, not the computer.

Now that we have actually established what you are doing, let's move forward.

All good media players will usually play a folder structure, for example I rip Avatar to an Avatar directory and under this directory are AUDIO_TS & VIDEO_TS directories. On my 6 year old player, I navigate to the Avatar directory and press play and it just plays like a DVD. If the WD will not do this it is a POS and we'll have to look at other options, of which there are a few.

ISO is one but I am pretty sure that the WD will only play DVD ISO's with menus and BD ISO with menus is an impossibility because the WD does no support Java.

MKV is really your best option with each episode held as a unique file. I have used this method for the last 8 years and it has proved itself in that period of time.

Thanks for the response, Greg. I'm pretty sure I've tried both methods. I converted the file to ISO, but the media player just starts playing the Battlestar Episodes, same thing when I click on the video folder. I haven't tried mkv, but I know the player does support this format. What kind of player do you use?

                      Mate,

I have currently 8 different ones connected, ranging from a Zensonics which is 8 years old to a Kaiboer 580i which hasn't even been released.

I did understand that the new firmware for the WD's allowed menus on DVD ISO's so you may wish to check that out first.

In the US, members on this forum are reporting good results on an Argosy model from Amazon for $89...

Also, see if you can find my other thread from this morning (I am in Oz) where I answered another forum menber who asked why I thought that the WD was a POS !!!

Make sure you have the latest firmware update for the WD media player. Also which WD Media player is it? last I heard they do not support Menu Play unless you install firmware update.

I have the older model media player. It shows as WDAVN00BN on Newegg.

I was going to load the update, but I'm a bit hesistate because the model numbers doesn't match exactly to the one they show on this page:

Why do you guys think? Is this the firmware update for my model?

Not sure as I not have a wd player so might have to wait for someone to post here for you or you can go to the WD forum and ask them what firmware you need to install. As you not have Menu support until you install the firmware that supports that

EDIT: It looks like the link you supplied is for your model number as it for model:WDAVN00 but I would make sure and post on the WD forum to get more accurate answer
