DVD Copy to hard drive

Hello.

I'm checking out DVD Copy but can't quite figure something out.

If I want to copy a disc to store on the hard drive to be able to play back with the same software that's used to play the DVD normally when you put it in, how do I do that?

I thought that using DVD Copy and putting into the folder format would allow the software (in this case Dell's "MediaDirect" software) to be able to read it and work normally but that doesn't work.

Can anyone shed some light for me?

The better software players will play from the folder structure on your hard drive, not sure about the Dell. You may need to convert the file to an ISO disc image (usinig either DVDFab Write Data mode or ImgBurn), then mount the ISO with DVDFab Virtual Drive (free) so that your player software will recognize it as a disc.

It looks like DVDFab Virtual Drive requires Administrator access to the system to work properly. Is this true?

After installation and trying to mount an iso image it doesn't work. However, if I log into an admin account it seems to work okay.

Can someone verify or possible let me know if perhaps I'm doing something wrong?

That's only for the installation. I have already installed the program (with an Admin account) but am now trying to use it with a Standard account.

Hi Carob
A lot of programs that if installed as administrator, or if they are run as administrator, get a pop up about running if you have UAC (user account control) enabled.
I myself have it disabled, because I am the only one on this computer.

If you would like a few media players to play these files I suggest VLC http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ or MPC http://mpc-hc.sourceforge.net/ which do not need any external codes.

I am able to use the DVDFab Virtual Drive program just fine (mount iso's and play them as if the DVD were in the drive, etc.). But, only in an account that has Admin rights. If I try the same thing in an account that only has standard "user" rights I cannot mount iso's etc. I am well aware of the differences between Admin access and standard user access in regards to the O.S.

I understand the question quite well.
I do not use "windows media player" or "Dell's Media Direct" software to play my rips I use the ones that I suggested to you and if I used DVDFab Virtual Drive I may be able to give you an answer.

I JUST installed this. It's literally only been about 30 minutes. All I'm interested in looking at right now is the HD Decrypter product. Not the other items that come with it. Maybe I'll look at the other stuff later but if the HD Decrypter product is supposed to be free why am I not even seeing that as an option?How do I get the HD Decrypter product to work?

Where in this post did you give us the information that you were using XP??? Because I did not see this information before I made my post...

If you can not understand the information that is given to you, then maybe you should be on Dell's site "bitching" at them, why they put software on your computer that will not read your ripped DVD's format, as I see it this is not a Fab problem, as the software is doing what it is supposed to do and Dell's software is not

Relax dude. The only response that was directed at you was about UAC. No, it wasn't mentioned in the earlier posts that the system was XP. That's why I was clairifying.

The other posters response was basically saying that I needed to be logged in as an administrator to install the application. What I was saying is that the application was already installed and I the question was about the useability of the software.

The question was mainly directed at someone within DVDFab to answer (because it had to do with programing) or, if someone else was willing to try it, to run DVDFab Virtual Drive in a non-admin account to see if they get the same results I talk about.

The purpose of the posts wasn't to ruffle your feathers. It was to try and get info about the product to help me decide on whether to purchase or not.

Correct, that is what I'm saying. That's why I was hoping someone else could try it as well to see if it's just me.
