when dvdfab locks other prog windows are superimposed and requires task manager to close and fix

also same thing happens on 3 other disks

          Hi brasstownjim,

Please visit to download and install the latest free beta version of DVDFab Passkey to remove protections firstly.

And then try using DVDFab DVD Copy to copy your original DVD disc and see the result.

          Best regards,

You can also try turning off the read ahead cache in DVDFab Common Settings, sometimes this helps with read problems. It is located under DVD/Blu-ray->Read.

thanks will try both suggestions and get back.

can you tell me does passkey work same as dv dcopy strips then copies stripped files to drive or does it strip from original leaving original free of protections?

Passkey is an on-the-fly-decrypter...essentially a "windows-based-driver". It decrypts only.
It has to be used with other software, for eg., DVD Copy, Img, in order to actually create an image on the hdd.

Please take a look at this thread:

If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

No it will not change anything on the source disc. Passkey only makes the computer and the program you are using to copy the DVD think that the source DVD is not copy protected

AGJ's advice is right on the money as always.

                        Just to add...
No software can do anything to a source disc, certainly not an original, pressed disc.
As a matter of fact, even a burned copy is safe as long as it's been finalized or not a re-writable disc
