BD Ripper (3D Plus) Avatar no sub titles

Sorry to bring this up again. I have searched the forum and it seems that what I am doing should work, but it doesnt. I rip Avatar (Red_Bird_2D_WW) from Blu-ray to MKV and receive no sub titles for the Pandorian language when I play on Windows 7 Media Center. When ripping I selected Title 802, Format 1080p/H.264, English DTSHD Master/5.1, profile mkv remix.

What am I doing wrong? Any help appreciated.

When you manually enable the subtitles, do they display then?

      Hi sussie
Because the profile 'MKV.remux' only support IDX/SUB,you can play the output file by MPC player.
      good luck.

Thank you all for the information. I am new to all this and have learned that Windows Media Center using shark007 is not playing the idx/sub files. I will continue searching on how to do this.

Does anyone know if DVD FAB has any plans to include sub titles in the mkv in future releases?

          Hi sussie
You can use the profile 'MKV,H264.audiocopy',and choose one subtitle, and click the Edit button on the right, change Subpicture to 'Direct render to video'.
          good luck.

            Hi Joe,

            I appreciate all the help.

I tried your suggestion to use MKV,H264.audicopy, choosing one subtitle, and subpicture to 'Direct render to video'. It processes to 1% Complete and then hangs.

I have tried this option before and it always hangs at 1% Complete. This time I let it run for 8 hours and checked CPU usage just to make sure it wasnt processing anything. Which it wasnt.

            DVD Fab log is below.

Any ideas why it hangs on 'connect to sub render filter'?

              Hi sussie

Please Open Fab click the Click the Green at top right corner of the DVDFab screen, and open Common Settings > General >A/V Codec, set Video Decoder to Software and set Video Encoder to Software restart Fab and try again.
Also try updating to the newest version here http://forum.dvdfab.com/showthread.php?t=9935

Thanks to everyone you helped me.

I was able to finally get the Avatar subtitles by doing the following:
                - Setting the Video Decoder to Software.
                - Setting Video Encoder to Software.
                - Ripping using MKV,H264.audicopy, one subtitle language, include forced subtitles only, and Direct render to video.

I also learned quite a bit in the process. As usual.

I'm having some difficulty getting the Avatar subtitles also. Did you select the first or second English subtitles? Also, when ripping, do you let it go for the whole movie? For testing, I've only been selecting Title 802, chapter 4, since that's the first instance of forced subs. Will that work, or do I need to rip the whole movie?

Are you converting from the original disc or from a file/folder on your hard drive? If you follow the insrtuctions below in this thread, it should work. If memory serves, you need to select the top englsh stream on the US version of the disc.

I finally managed to get it. To answer my own questions, I selected title 802, the second English subtitle track, did not check "Include Forced Subtitles Only", and used the h264,audiocopy profile. I also did not have to rip the whole movie each time I tested... selecting only chapter 4 is sufficient.

If you don't want to re-render the whole movie, try mkvmerge (freeware) to take the Idx/sub file and put it in the mkv container. It will process this fairly quickly and will not re-render the video.
While I have not done this with windows media center, I have done this with other players that wouldn't play the idx/sub files when they were external. It's worth a shot....
