DVD Ripper Ripping DVDs with Subtitles

    Hi, All,

Sorry to post this but I've read numerous posts on the subject and haven't found a solution to my problem. I've also tried many different settings and for some reason I can't get DVDFab Ripper to rip DVDs with subtitles properly.

I've tried the first three Star Wars DVDs (the 2004 Special Edition release bonus discs with the original theatrical version). I've tried AVI, MKV, and straight VOB with no luck.

I've tried rendering direct to video and as separate IDX/SUB files both with no luck. I've also selected the first English subtitle program, and the second (also labeled English) and tried both with the "Display Only Forced Subtitles" checked and unchecked. Still no luck.

I've only managed to get two results:

1.) All subtitles are displayed through the entire movie either in direct render or in the IDX/SUB format. So there are English subtitles happened whenever anyone speaks.

    or

2.) No subtitles at all even when the character is speaking another language.

I've settled back to just trying the original Star Wars (Episode IV) bonus disc version again and again to no avail.

I'm sorry if this is answered in another thread but I've looked everywhere and tried applying all settings I could change with no luck.

Thanks in advance for any help at all on this matter.

    Did you resolve this?

I am experiencing the same exact challenge. Did you get any answers to this, either on your own or on another forum?

Nope, no answer yet. Everything else about the program seems to work really well. I love all the options and ease of use. Just this one last hurdle preventing me from ripping any movies with intermittent subtitles.

Hopefully some smarty will read this and have a suggestion.

They work fine in version 8053, the title Star Wars IV the subs are within the 3rd English subtitle track, usually they're on the 1st but not always.

EDIT: try just converting chapter 22 for a quick test.

I'm not sure if this is version 8053 or not. I think it's the most recent version of the original trilogy (the 2004 release).

There are only two listing for English subtitles. If you'd like I can post a screen shot.

          Thanks for your help!

Sorry I meant DVDFab v8053, also I have the collectors edition so if I were you I'd let Fab open the disc, open common settings and make sure the correct drive is selected. Then click Save Info and place them in a zip file and just post that file here in this thread.
The devs may be able to correct the issue with the info you provide and solve this for you. Sorry I thought I had the same DVD's as you did, my bad lol.

you posted the wrong info that was requested but then this is not the original DVD you are using! Since this is not original DVD maybe try with Pathplayer disabled look at the attachments below to know what is needed and to see what an original DVD should look like for the info you posted

Several of the Star Wars movies do not have translations for the alien dialog. One of them (can't remember which) has only 3-4 forced subs in the entire film. If the source you are using was not processed correctly from the original, the subs may not be there. I would suggest you start again from the original.

I'm sorry about the confusion. I didn't realize there were the other files besides the log. I've attached them to the post.

By "not the original" do you mean not disc 1? I just want to confirum that this is the bonus disc from the 2004 release with the bonus disc that has the original theatrical version.

                    Thanks for your help!

No they mean the original disc you purchased, not the backup copy.

Thanks. This is not the backup copy. This is the original disc.

What I am using is the original DVD, disc 2 (bonus material) which has the original theatrical cut from 1977.

It's the limited edition 2004 release. I've also tried Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi with the same issues. Maybe, as you said, it's a problem with the way the DVD is authored? In that case maybe this is a lost cause.

Well what I posted in post #8 is from the same DVD as you posted in post #7. Look at the difference for copy protection. Also I have not heard of a region 1 DVD not having css protection on it. The DVD you have does not have CSS or any other protection and it region free as well and Fox does not release region free DVDs in U.S. or Canada especially a DVD that as popular as this one

How long have you had this DVD set and where you buy as it looks like it a copy and not original. In Common settings of DVDFab use the send info files and send them to DVDFab so they can take look at them. I think if you bought this DVD set then you bought a bootleg set as there is a lot of them around and if you not buy from a reputable retail store then you may have just bought a bootleg

This is a store bought DVD from 2004 when it first came out (I think from Amazon if memory serves me correctly). I have DVDFab Passkey running. Is that why it might be showing up like this with no protection? Should I close out DVDFab Passkey and regenerate the files?

Just to compare I am posting the files from DVDFab WITHOUT DVDPasskey running to see if there is a difference. Also, I included a screen shot of DVDFab in case that is helpful.

Thank you so much for all your help! Funny how you mentioned a bootleg. Sadly this probably would have been so much easier if I had a bootleg copy.

Luckily these are movies I know I'm going to watch more than once.
