Error=4(501 18 -1072886856) using DVD to Mobile in Windows 7

Hello, the software is not working in Windows 7 32bit nor 64bit. The DVD to DVD is working..

    It's giving - Task_1 failed! Error=4(501 18 -1072886856) after each task.

    Just letting you know

I've tried the compatibility option in Win7 to try to get it to think it was in Vista or XP, but so far not working.

If any fixes I could try, do tell!

    Thanks!

    What version of Fab?

Download the latest beta and try that.

Yeah, but what are you trying to do and when is the error message popping up?

I am attempting the "DVD to mobile" using a "Lost" (tv series) DVD and convert it into a Zune format. The DVD has 4 episodes and I checkmark the episodes I want, and press start.. without changing any other conversion options except removing the subtitle option. It isn't just that DVD, I've tried others with the same effect. When I press start, the process goes through in seconds and dings to say it's completed.. it creates the files, but just in name only.. 0 file size.

          21:17:51: Task 1
          21:17:51: Source( G:\LOST\LOST Season 2 Disc 4\FullDisc\LO20NNT4\ )
          21:17:51: Video( Title=4, Angle=0, PlayTime=00:46:07, Chapter=1-10, AspectRatio=16:9 )
          21:17:51: Audio( [80h] English AC-3/6 )
          21:17:51: Conversion: one pass begin...
          21:17:52: Task_1 failed! Error=4(501 18 -1072886856)

Isn't Zune format just a lower quality WMV file? Similar to the Xbox 360 profile?

If that is the case, than this isn't current supported... Fentago and Ting are working on re-writing the Mobile engine for various reasons - performance, Win7 Support, New API set within Win7, etc...

If you have Win7 Ultimate, Enterprise or Pro you could attempt doing this in Windows XP Mode:

You would need to update Windows Media Player to 11 in order to get WM10 encoding support (not sure if it's needed for the Zune)...

I've done some Xbox 360 WMV encodes like this... It's slower, but it does seem to work...

                Hope that helps...

As the Zune uses WMV format files, I will bet it is the Widows Media Encoder that is included with Win 7 that is causing the problem. I remember something similar on CD Freaks about the XBox and Ting said he is still working on it.

Don't forget, Win 7 hasn't been officially released yet so I would say Ting is working to that timeline and if I was him, I wouldn't do any more on it till Win 7 is officially released coz micro$oft have been known to change things at the last minute.

Yeah I know Win7 is still beta and I didn't figure that there would be much of a rush to make sure the program was going to be compatible for awhile yet, so I was offering a jump start testing and offering feedback

Here are my files.. not everything is reporting in them. Like, I tried a new release movie DVD and it isn't reported that I tried it. (same issue).

DVD to Mobile and File to Mobile tried.. will try other formats besides Zune
                    video format: - zune.wmv
                    video format: - AC3/5.1 normal
no defaults were changed except for taking off subtitles

I will try what KmR suggested and/or I still have XP Pro on dual boot. Thanks!

Excellent. You can post them as attachments next time if you prefer by changing the file suffix to txt. This will be helpful information for Ting for the W7 rewrite, thanks for posting.

This problem has always existed in some DVDFab version on Win7, I am current working for this, hope I can fix this problem soon.

                          thanks ting

Hi I was glad too see you were already aware and working on this problem. There is no way I am going back to vista and the only format I use is the zune/xbox, so I am in a jam for now

I beg to differ. Win7 has been released to manufacturing (RTM) which means "it's done." What is in the RTM build and currently available to MSDN, TechNet, Partners, etc. is the version of Win7 that will be preinstalled on Dell, HP, Acer, etc machines to be sold worldwide. No further changes to the Windows Media 12 WMV driver should be expected.

I am also experiencing this error in Win7 and would like to encourage the development team to look into this now rather than waiting. Thanks!

The developers are already working on it as the post only two before yours indicates.
