BD Ripper (3D Plus) Why? Oh Why? Oh Why??

Why do software developers do it? Take a perfectly good product and then totally mess it up?

BD Ripper Version 8085 to PS3 works great - But it seems that the new versions from 81xxx onwards are nothing but trouble. I wasted a lot of time ripping BD's of 'Unknown' 'Shelter' and 'Eagle Alliance' using the latest 81xxx version only to find that they would not stream to my PS3 - The titles are visible but will not play at all - No error messages, just hangs

Using the BD version of 'Gladiator as my 'test piece'

Any BD rip done on Version 8085 plays ok on my desktop (with VLC) and streams good from by UPnP HD to the PS3 and then to the HDTV -- Never been a problem

Now with all 81xxx versions, the BD rips play ok on my desktop (With VLC) but will NOT play via the UPnP HD to the PS3 and then to the HDTV --- It just sits there, no picture, no sound - Nada.....

Any suggestions? If anyone needs the logfiles, could you please help me out as to where they may be and how to attach to any reply? Or is it just straight cut/paste?

OS is Win 7 64 bit

I'm tempted to use bad language but...... Thanks for any assistance or suggestions

The logs are still in the same place as when you posted them in your thread "Small Picture" 3 months ago.

The attachment should remind you of the location.

Thanks for the location information - My memory is not what it used to be....

Have attached the relevant text log files

I just downloaded 8.1.0.6 Beta which supposedly addressed the PS3 problems - Some improvement but still unplayable --- VLC loses the sound track after about a minute and streaming to the PS3 is jumpy and erratic ---

          Unfortunately...no dice.
Just c&p relevant portions, otherwise you'll exceed the max file size...assuming you haven't done any "house cleaning".

I am sure that your problem will be resolved.
This will be your warning about using "Bad Language" if you decide to do so, You Will earn yourself a vacation from the forum if you do.

Please do not convert from your drive
First save it to your HDD and convert from that file.
Doing it this way saves wear and tear on your optical drive and is also faster.

                    For CBR929

                    Hi CBR929,

As I recall, you helped me out last time I had a problem and I appreciate that.

                    With respect to your comments (below) - I'm a little confused and would appreciate a bit more detail regarding procedure;

"Please do not convert from your drive
First save it to your HDD and convert from that file.
Doing it this way saves wear and tear on your optical drive and is also faster"

My present method is as follows - I normally only rip BD's unless the BD version is not available, then I rip the DVD version (to VOB as it seems better quality than PS3 MP4)
                    1) Load BD inti optical drive
                    2) Open DVD Fab and select BD ripper for PS3 profile
                    3) Rip PS3 MP4 to E-SATA drive attached to desktop
                    4) When rip completed, this normally takes about 90 minutes, test it by playing with VLC on desktop
                    5) If okay, copy file across the internal home network (1 Gbs) to the STORA UPnP HD drive where all the movie rips are stored
                    6) Stream from the STORA UPnP HD drive to the PS3 when we want to watch the movie

Is this method okay or is there a better way? - I'm a little confused by the phrase 'First save it to your HDD and convert from that file' - Does this mean copy the BD to the HD first and then convert to PS3 MP4 from there? - I would have to buy a BD Copy licence to do this method

                    Thanks

If you use a tool like mediatab (http://www.mediatab.co.cc/) you'll be able to see the actual encoding format used. (it will show up as a tab in properties on a file).

If you compare a 'good' version against a 'bad' version are they encoded the same. I think DVDFab has changed the format profile they use for MP4 recently as it's caused me to start having to encode to the AVI container instead of the MP4 container. In my case it used to use format profile 'Base Media' and I started having problems with my media player where it started using 'Base Media / Version 2'

I wonder if you have a similar problem.

I don't see advantage or benefits of mediatab vs. widely used by most of the members of this forum, MediaInfo. Do you?

                          MediaTab/MediaInfo

I have MediaInfo and that seems to do all that is necessary, so I think I'll stick with that --- However, it does seem that and DVDFab versions after 8085 are, to say the least, somewhat unrefined --- They definitely need some work to get back to the functionality of 8085 - Let's hope this happens sooner rather than later
