DVD Ripper Issue with movies being truncated

Hi all,

I have been trying the DVD ripping software and for the most part it works really well. I have found, though, that it is truncating all of my movies. This means that about 3/4 of the way into the movie the AVI ends.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is it because I'm still using the trial and haven't applied a full license?

Hi DVDFab-Nigel,

Please try using the other avi profiles, like generic.avi.h264.audiocopy, generic.avi.h264.mp3 to see if you still get the truncated avi file or not.

Ok so I have tried the suggestion, but to no avail.

Machine specs:
Windows 7 Professional 64 bit
Quad processor @ 2.4 Ghz
4 Gig Ram
Lots of disk space

DVDFab 8.1.0.5

Settings:
Convert DVD to AVI
generic.avi(2gb-).divx.audiocopy (720x406 resolution, 1 pass) - Truncated, no end to the movie

generic.avi.h264.audiocopy (720x406 resolution, 1 pass) - makes an entire AVI file but when it gets to the place where the above truncates, it displays an error in Media player "Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file"

Any other thoughts?

Don't use the 2Gb - profile, use the normal one....

Have upgraded to the latest version and tried about 1/2 of the AVI profiles - including those suggested.

All give the same results - error after about 2 hours into the movie.

My trial runs out on the 18th so it looks like I will have to try something else - bit sad that as it is nice software otherwise.

DVD Ripper

Hi. I am also experiencing difficulty with ripping some DVDs. Ironically, I am also using the trial install, which will be expiring in a couple of days too. If I can get a more consistent outcome with the software, I have no problem purchasing it. BTW - I purchased the DVD Copy software a couple of years ago and have been very satisfied with it.

I happen to be ripping my DVDs to the Apple TV format. It seems I have to take greater care in removing smudges, scratches, etc. from the DVDs than when I've copied movies with the DVD Copy software. In fact, some DVDs that copied fine using DVD Copy now give me problems with DVD Ripper. That isn't a big problem, just an observation. BTW - I'm using the newest version of your software: 8.1.1.2.

In some cases, I cannot detect any blemish on the surface of the DVD, and the movie copies fine without giving me a read error. But then the copying stops prior to completion. For example, I have a current DVD in the drive and the process is stalled at 86.34%. The Task Time Left shows 00:00:00. I've tried clicking the Pause and Resume button, but it does not complete the process. If I abort the process, the resulting movie is playable, but it truncates where you might expect given the completion percentage. I've had other movies stall at different completion percentages. I've rebooted and tried shutting down all other processes, etc.

I assume there must be a bad spot on the disk, but can't see anything obvious. Is there a way you could provide a graphic that indicates where the trouble spot/band might be - based upon the percentage completion? That might help your users focus on the likely area to be addressed.

Also - you note that we should supply the log file. Where can that be found? I looked in the DVDFab 8 Qt directory and don't see an obvious file.

Log Files

Here are my files. In the past 24 hours there were a half-dozen failed processes in which the time remaining went to 00:00:00, but the percentage completed was much less than 100%

I've cleaned and de-scratched the DVDs until they're perfect. No blemishes can be detected. They each consistently stop at a unique percentage of completion. So - a DVD that stops at 18.44% will do so even after I run it through a scratch removal process.

Thanks for that. I wasn't aware of the logging and have uploaded the two files that seem to have the most information in them.

There was also a dvdfab_process.log file, but it was only 2 lines long.

Hopefully it points to a resolution.

Continued Proble with Truncated Files

I've tried a number of things. Interestingly, your DVDCopy program created a flawless DVD. Then when I tried the DVD Ripper program, the progress stalled at the SAME PERCENTAGE OF COMPLETION as the original DVD. And, as always, the Task Time Left eventually zeroed out at 00:00:00.

Here's a list of the DVDs that have stalled. Each one was tried multiple times on different computers: A Dell PC running Windows 7, and an HP running Windows XP. In each case, the DVDs stall at the IDENTICAL percentage of completion.

Ray - stalls @ 27.55%
Steel Magnolias - stalls @ 86.34%
He's Just Not That Into You - @ 37.57%
Vacation (National Lampoon) - @ 18.44%
Spanglish - @ 29.26%
P.S. I Love You - @ 9.09%
27 Dresses - @ 52.57%
Anchorman - @ 31.55%
Bambi - @ 24.24%
Pinocchio - @ 12.32%

Here's a list of others. I wasn't recording the percentage of completion at this point:
