BD Ripper (3D Plus) Choppy Video and Audio Sync Issues

Hello everyone, I'm hoping someone can help me determine what is causing my problem. I have tried repeatedly to rip movies to mp4 for my PS3. I have tried both the PS3 profile and the MP4 (mp4.h264.aac) but have always gotten choppy video and bad audio sync. I have attached a log of my latest attempt on three movies. I am running version 8.1.1.2 in windows 32 bit on a Q9550 and GTX460. I try and stop as many processes as possible including shutting down the network and anti-virus. "Other" ripping programs work fine but are not CUDA enabled and I would love to be able to use DVDFAB as a one stop shop.

Hi Flagg
I know you would like to utilize Cuda, but try Opening Fab click the Click the Green √ at top right corner of the DVDFab screen, and open Common Settings > General >A/V Codec, put a check in Disable all GPU codes and make sure they are set to Software, restart Fab and try again.

Also make sure that you have the most current drivers for your NVidia card.

Same issue

Hi

I'm also running the same version and have backed up 4 blu-rays and all are choppy on the PS3. Previous versions of DVDFab have never been choppy for me. I am running with "Disable all GPU codes" set to yes.

Glad that they finally fixed the blank screen and 5.1 issues for the PS3 in this version, but now it just doesn't playback on the PS3. It's fine on the PC though.

I'm having to still use 8.0.8.5 as every QT version has had issues with the PS3 thus far... good to see that they are nearly there though.

I'm also suddenly having bad a/v sync issues

For the last several releases I've had a lot of problems. WMV conversions of Blu-rays, which always worked for me in the past, suddenly are almost always ending with "Process failed" errors near the very end. Sometimes the resultant wmv file actually is complete, but has very noticable audio/video sync problems that get worse the further into the movie I go.

I'm using the software codecs - the checkbox to disable all the advanced codec options is checked.

What's going on? Why the sudden rash of problems?

I finally had a chance to test your recommendation and turned off all GPU encoding and I am still getting the same results. Attached is my latest log file. I double checked and my video drivers are up to date as well. Is there any more info I can give you to determine what is causing my issue?

Hi Flagg
There have been a few posts about choppy video with the some of the latest versions.
You can try using the very latest found here

Also are you converting from your drive, if so please do not convert from your drive
First save it to your HDD as "Movie Only" BD50 without compression.
Then open the hard drive folder and use that file to do your conversion.
Doing it this way saves wear and tear on your optical drive and is also faster.

If this does not work try using an older version 8073 or 8085 found in the link in my signature.

No offense, but I'm glad I'm not the only one having problems ripping DVDs to mp4s..the only difference is I am using them for my apple tv. Have tried both formats(mp4 and appletv) but with the same choppy video/off audio) results. This is driving me crazy!

8.1.1.7 and 8.1.1.8 are the same.

Devices tested with:
PS3,
Western Digital Live,
PC (Windows Media Player* no enhancements),
USB Video playback direct on LG TV.
* Did't test playback with VLC as it has smoothing features which hide judder, just like the PS3.

I've spent the last few days trying dozens of combinations across BluRay Ripper and Video Converter and it seems to be the combination of the mp4(h264) and AAC codecs. Particularity AAC as AC3 with mp4(h264) combination is fine. Likewise combine the AAC audio with avi(h264) and you get no audio (PS3, WDLive, etc..)... once again AC3 is fine.

The strange thing is that the stuttering only happens when streaming and not once copied to the PS3, local playback is fine. No it's NOT MY CONNECTION. I'm running 500Mb powerline kits with a reported actual throughput of 325Mb and I've never had any issues before.

So in short is seems to be AAC and streaming which is causing the stuttering.

I can't duplicate any problem with the AAC audio, I play MP4/M4Vs made with the iPhone4 or iPad profiles on both of these devices, along with my PC with VLC and my LG TV via a Zinwell 5005HD media player with Wi-Fi streaming. If you have examples of h264+AAC files that stream OK and ones that don't, let MediaInfo analyze them and post the results. It may be a problem with the variable framerate encoding that crept into some of the DVDFab profiles for some reason, but I don't see how streaming would make any difference if you have files that will stream without showing the problem.

I have (briefly) reported this exact problem myself previously - Any BD PS3 rips done on 8085 stream perfectly - anything done on 8112 and above exhibit this choppy video and audio problem - I have 2 separate PS3 systems - one is hard CAT6 wired and has no problems with any conversion. The other is run via a 'house wiring' system - I don't recall the exact term - and will stream rips done with 8086 perefectly - anything done with 8112 and above suffers unless I run a temporary hard wire CAT6 into it - There is a definite problem with the choppiness on 8112 and above

The network aspect is strange, perhaphs it's the additional latency of a network that's causing the issues for the updated profiles; perhaps tighter timings.

AAC profiles are the same between the pass and failed streaming files, but it's strange how if AC3 is used in place of AAC no "stuttering" occurs (mp4.h264.ac3). PS3 will play this back with no "stutter", but the files that "stutter" on the PS3 also "stutter" on the WDL box, likewise files that play ok on the PS3 are ok on the WDL box.

The AAC and AC3 tests differed in that a base profile was edited (bd_avi.h264.ac3.xml) to have an mp4 container with h264 and AC3. It may be worth noting that the custom profile uses the AVC High@5.1 (variable) and not the 4.1 used in the PS3 profiles. Anyway creating a custom profile using the mp4 container, h264 and AC3 codecs seems to work fine....

Anyway it's a lot of factors to consider and may be something that the devs should look at?

Taking on board what you said regarding apple products and you not having issues I tried the iPhone4.mp4.multichannel profile. This file was coded in 8.1.1.8 (using iPhone4.mp4.multichannel), the results were the same; when streaming playback continually stops for a fraction of a second like it's buffering but once again plays fine locally:
