BD Ripper (3D Plus) Since 8.1.1.2, Jerky Video, Every time

The Cinevia option on the 8.1.1.2 is nice, but other quality was lost from 8.0.8.5.

I wished that I had checked all the mp4.h264.aac that I have converted from BD rip because since upgrading to 8.1.1.2 from 8.0.8.5 has been with jerky playback on the PS3. Unfortunately, I did not check the playback of the mp4.h264.aac files on the PS3 since they had always been fine, and very nice, with great sound. However, when my wife tried to play RIO converted from BD to mp4.h264.aac, it was jerky. I began to investigate, because I had never had this issue before. I looked at all the BDs I converted with 8.1.1.2 and they were all jerky, all of them, if they played at all. So I have wasted many hours of my time on many movies converting BD to mp4.h264.aac, when using 8.1.1.2. I should have checked them after the upgrade. My fault. Yet, all of the DVDfab conversions were stated as successfully completed, but the 8.1.1.2 would only playback in unwatchable jerky fashion, if they played at all.

Anyway, I went back and opened 8.0.8.5 to BD rip the same original disc to the same file format of mp4.h264.aac that failed to play in the PS3 because of jittery playback after converting to mp4.h264.aac using 8.1.1.2 and it performed flawlessly. It was smooth, sharp and without sound issues, when converted with 8.0.8.5.

So something changed regarding BD rip to mp4.h264.aac with the "upgrade" to 8.1.1.2. Some conversions do not even start to play and the ones that do playback jerky and pausing every 1 to 3 seconds.

So, bottom line, everyting BD ripped using 8.0.8.5 plays flawlessly and nothing using BD Ripper 8.1.1.2 plays on the PS3. The Mediainfo files are listed below. They are different between the two formats.

    All options were default

    Have you tried v8.1.1.5 Beta?

The ones that play OK are fixed framerate, the ones that don't are variable framerate. I don't have a PS3 so I have no idea if it tolerates variable framerate content. I have passed this on to the DVDFab QA Team in Beijing.

Is your PS3 firmware up to date?

          Frame Rate

Following this thread - Can Signals or someone advise how the frame rate is changed from fixed to variable? Which menu do I go to to check this out and/or change it from one to the other? I'd like to try this myself to see if it has any effect - I am running 2 separate PS3's - One is 'Hard Wired' directly from the 1Gb hub and the other is 'Semi hard wired' from the same hub but thru a 'NETGEAR' mains wiring connection to my second family room - one of those things that plug into a wall socket and use the house wiring as the transmission path.

Any BD rips I have done on 8085 stream flawlessly through both systems but any rips done with 8115 qt Beta only stream okay through the hard wired system - through the 'NETGEAR' house wiring system there is definite jerkiness and dropouts

          Thanks

It is done in either the profile or may be in the "pre-set" that the profile uses. They are checking this now, but it does not show up on the PS3s they test with in Beijing. Variable framerate is required for some 3D content and devices. Watch for something in the next release that will allow this to be controlled or limited to situations where it is needed. There is no guarantee that this is the problem, but it is not a hard thing to put in so that it can be tested. It was the only difference I could find in the logs of ones that worked and ones that were jerky.

The house wire ethernet should have enough bandwidth for anything you want. The slowest one I've ever seen was good for 40 mbps and most are 60-80.

              8.1.1.5 Still Jerky

I BD ripped using 8.1.1.5 with conversion settings set to fixed bit rate yet the bit rate according to media info is variable. Frame rate is also variable. I dont know where to change frame rate other than in open queue-conversion settings and when clicked, the only option is same as source.

My PS3 software is up to date as firmware updates are forced, not optional.

Media info files are below of the mp4.h264.aac BD rip using 8.1.1.5 that is still jerky when played back on PS3:

8.1.2.0 Still not fixed. Jittery, pauses

Sorry I took so long to get back, but I just built another computer and could not test 8.1.1.6 until now.

However it still does not work when ripping BD to mp4.h264.aac. Playback is jittery and pauses for 0.25 to 1 second at a time.

I am glad i could still download 8.0.8.5, because it still works for this conversion. I dont know why it was changed in the new versions because it was working fine and none of the new versions have worked properly.

For now I must keep two versions of DVDFab on my computer to have full stated functionality. Yet there is still not full functionality because as I had mentioned long ago, none of the DPG conversions have ever worked to create playable DPGs, because no matter what frame rate is selected, it always defaults to 24, which is too much for the slow Nintendo DS. I selected DVDFab for the reason that your software claimed to convert to DPG for Nintendo, plus had lots of other features. Well, I finally bought another product to do DPG conversions, because DVDFab never did what it claims to be able to do with DPG conversions.

Anyway, enough ranting. It would be nice if you guys could just put back the same BD ripping instructions that were in 8.0.8.5, because it works and none of the new versions have been playable on the PS3. Yes, PS3 firmware is up to date. As you already know Frame rate is constant in 8.0.8.5 and variable in the later versions.

Thank you everyone for your effort

                    Jerky Video

I have this same problem with my PS3's ( 2 separate setups) - ie 8085 is fine but even the latest 8125 is 'choppy' -- For clarification - if I 'hard wire' my network connection directly to the second PS3 (don't use the present 'Powerline' arrangement - the primary PS3 is already hard wired) then the choppy video is gone and it all plays smoothly - See previous posts above re this little phenomenon - Are you hard wired, wireless or via a powerline from your HDD to the PS3? - Try a temporary direct hard wire network connection and see if this clears the problem

Again, the only difference I can see between the two is the frame rate mode (fixed rate=works OK, variable rate=jerky). Please give the details that whaleshark mentioned on how this gets to the PS3.

                        Thanks for the reply guys.

The signal is getting to the PS3 via MOCA adapters that the PS3 registers data rate at 12 to 18 mbs which has always been fine for smooth playback until upgrades since 8.0.8.5. I understand that at least 6 mbs is need to stream video. With 8.0.8.5, I watch DVDFab blu ray ripped movies in extremely high quality video on a 50 inch Pioneer Elite 1080P plasma with Pioneer Elite reciever and Monitor Audio speaker producing super incredible sound via 7.1 surround setup. The quality is extremely amazing considering it is streamed from a 4 to 7 GB file on my ReadyNas. With DVDFab 8.0.8.5 Bluray rip the image and sound quality is as good to the naked eye and ear as if you put the original blu ray disk in the PS3.

My stream rate is exceptional for everything except for FVDFab conversions made by DVDFab versions greater than 8.0.8.5.

The Bottom line is that since upgrades from 8.0.8.5 ALL STREAMING IS PAUSING!

I previously Blu ray ripped Tansformers 3 with 8.1.2.0 and it would not play back r/t pausing. I immediately ripped the same disk with 8.0.8.5 (ripped mp4.h264.aac to 6.3 GB) and it played smoothly with practically the same quality as is if were playing from the original disk in the PS3.

I don't know? I am no engineer, but these issues are 100% consistant and 100% reproducible, everytime.

Why would the change from a fixed to a variable bit rate make such a difference?

Sorry that hard wiring is not an option for me without 70 feet of cable.

Thank you again for trying to figure this out.

                          Choppy Video

As Fishing Agent notes, this problem started after 8085 which streams everything flawlessly and I can reproduce the choppy video each time from any file done with versions issued after 8085 - My solution (not a welcome one) is to hard wire the PS3 to the network but it does seem to be this 'variable framerate' that is the root cause - I can stream high rate/capacity MKV and MKV/VOB files of BD's without any problem at all, but as soon as the PS3 MP4 version is streamed, up comes the choppy video phenomenon - It would be nice to see this addressed and fixed

Any Chance on resolving this issue?

Please see reply to Signals and Whaleshark's reply to my post. I dont really care about 3D, so is it possible to have the frame rate remain at fixed and only have it changed if someone selects to rip in 3D? With the new versions past 8085 even if you change frame rate to fixed, it still comes out variable. Just like the DVDFab dpg conversion option never changes the frame rate no matter what I select, it always comes out at 24 fps which is way to fast for a Nintendo DSi.

Anyway, the heck with the DSi, the kids are into iTouch's now anyway, but I would like to see the skipping/pausing fixed for mp4.h264.aac rips. They are fantastic quality (when they dont pause)! Or if there is no intention of fixing the new problem since 8085 can you possibly let me know of another file format that will play on my PS3 (without pausing), because selecting PS3 in the DVDfab choice does not yield a playable file?

PS3 firmware is up to date.

                            Thanks again

I have just seen the fix list for this week and this problem is on it near the top, so it is getting attention. Hang on, it will come.
