thought I got it to work

I thought I figured it out. I tried it once using 2 passes rather than 1 and it actually started!!!! It got through the 1st pass(to 50.05% finished) then reverted to the previous freeze-up. here's the log:

Is the framerate of the original DVD 30 fps?
Why are subtitles included?
You seem to be upscaling the original DVD resolution during the conversion. Try it with a smaller frame size (like 720x400 or so) and see how it looks.

It's an NTSC DVD and the frame rate DVDFab auto chooses is 29.97, so I'm assuming that is the correct DVD frame rate. I've already tried it with a smaller resolution(720x400 as a matter of fact) & it still fails(what is the original DVD resolution??). I'll try removing the subtitles tomorrow(it's late here now) & get back to you with the results. Thanks for your input.

Wow this is getting frustrating!!!

I have tried almost everything I (and others have suggested on the forum in similar threads) can think of and still this problem persists. Unfortunately, I don't have the time to spend trying a million different permutations of a process that(at least at one time that I can remember with my old ipod touch) was, literally, as simple as 1-2-3.

For the time being, I am going to take the only suggestion that seems to be working to correct this odd, seemingly new and out of nowhere, ipad ripping issue; that is download the older DVDFab 8.0.8.5 version(Prior to the Qt series) and utilize that for ripping DVD's to my new ipad2. It kind of stinks that I just bought this new expensive ipad2 a few weeks ago and finally have a real useful need for the DVDFab Ripper(other than a few rips I did in the past with my old ipod touch) & it seems to go whacko right when I need it most.

I would ask that DVDFab technical support make this issue a priority as it appears that I am not the only person who appears to be having this difficulty. Thank you.

I just tried it last night(1st attempt with the older 8.0.8.5 version). It appears to work well now except for 1 thing.
The 29.96 FPS rate that DVDfab auto-chose for the framerate did work, however, the audio progressively became out of sync with the video until it was unwatchable. here's the log:

Then I downloaded the new 8.1.3.2Qt build and it again auto chose the 29.97 framerate - I went in and changed it to 23.96FPS and this seemed to solve the "audio sync" problem. However, there was an issue with the subtitle. I chose to have the english subtitle track placed in a seperate ibx/sub file(so I could turn it on and off); But , for whatever reason, DVDFab decided by itself to simply render the subtitles directly to video. here's the log:

We have found the subtitle issue and dealing with it. Please wait for the fixed release.
For video framerate issue, no need to change it as ipad support all. What's more, it can be changed to what you set including ipad.h264 and ipad.h264.multichannel in my test.

Thanks for the response Terry. So what you're essentially saying is that the "audio sync" framerate issue was/is an artifact of the older 8.0.8.5 DVDFab version on which I ran the first conversion attempt. In the newer 8.1.3.2Qt DVDFab version, the framerate chosen by DVDFab(or by me) will not in anyway adversly affect the audio syncing during the conversion process. Would I be correct in assuming this? Thanks for your help.
