Has anyone tried ripping this? I'm trying to get just the subtitles when they are speaking Japanese, but everything I have tried is giving me either subs for the entire film or nothing at all. Don't need to read the english. Help!

I am trying similar for the Sum of All Fears, when they are speaking Russian. I've tried the forced subpicture option but that doesn't work either. I hope there is an easy solution.

Here is The Sum of All Fears log file with a simple passthrough rip, a single subtitle track and forced subtitles enabled. When I play the m2ts file, I get subtitles throughout, not just during the Russian speaking portions.

Not sure if your settings will work with forced subs (m2ts passthrough). VOB Passthrough in DVD Ripper will not unless there have been changes I am not aware of. If you want them burned into the video you will need to use a profile that re-encodes the video.

Interesting that you mention this. I have tried it previously with 8.1.7.8 and it didn't make a difference but let me try it again tonight and post the results. I was using the AC3 high quality profile. Note that I did post an issue with 8.1.8.5 not working with this movie using that very profile, where 8.1.7.8 works fine. See so I'll have to use 8.1.7.8 for my testing.

I see where 8.1.8.7 is out and may have a fix for the freezing and some additional logging for forced subtitles. I'll retry this tonight with the enw beta release.

No luck with 8.1.8.7 . It hung with and without CUDA enabled at around 36% of the ay through The Sum of All Fears. This is much further than previously, where it hung at 1% but 8.1.7.8 works fine. Also on the portion of the files it did rip the constant subtitles were now gone but I never got any subtitles, even during the portions where the Russians were speaking. So we've gone from constant subtitles to none. Here are the logs with the hang with CUDA disabled:

did not read all this carefully, but wanted to make quick mention RE what i have found always to be.

Assuming there are forced subtitles (say english speaking) within the main sub stream -

M2TS pass through - selecting "forced subs" makes no difference - all subs will be collected. (my one wish with blu-ray ripper is that i could collect the forced subs if required via m2ts passthrough)

MKV re-mux - selecting "forced subs" yes, only the forced subs will be collected

Seperatly, if the subs are not forced (within a main stream) & have their own seperate independant stream then either option will work (ie m2ts pass through ok now) but now do not tick "forced subs" as they are not actually forced subs when they have their own stand alone stream.

Display only forced works correctly with the Region A (US) version of Tora Tora Tora. The forced subs are part of the main dialog English sub stream, and if display only focred is checked, the output has only the forced subs rendered into the video. The correct title is 800.

I'll try Tora, Tora, Tora when I get time. I am trying to get this working on The Sum of All Fears with an M2TS AC3 profile that will remux forced subtitles into the M2TS file. I would try MKV remux but there isn't a profile that also includes AC3 conversion just audio passthrough.
