DVD Ripper Those of you with iDevices….

I was hoping to only have to rip all of my DVDs/BluRays once, into mp4 format. I wanted to be able to use the resulting file on my home theater (via hard drive and streaming device), and on my "iDevices" But I had some questions answered recently related to A/V sync issues that I think may have to do with having 5.1 multichannel in audio selected when I do the rip. So, now my question is…those of you using apple stuff, are you making 2 rips of everything? One for home theater viewing in 5.1 and one for mobile viewing in just "stereo" for your apple devices? I am first going to try this: Setting the encoding framerate to "same as source". Which suggested by Signals, and TY, BTW, hopefully that will solve all my issues.
OK, well my plan WAS to try Setting the encoding framerate to "same as source". BUT, I can't seem to find that option. Maybe I am not looking in the right spot?

You normally encode audio for Apple divices with 2 tracks, the first being stereo/aac and the second being Dolby Digital (Apple does not support DTS).

When played on something tike the Apple TV, you can then switch to the 5.1.... The lesser devices default to the first track.

I don't know whether Fabwill allow you to do this but it has been asked for numerous times.

Well I guess that won't work in this case then. At least until they allow for 2 audio tracks. Thanks, though!

Does anyone know where to find the option for "same as source" for encoding frame rate?
All I have is a drop down with a bunch of options for frame rate in numbers up to 30 fps. I think the version of fab I have does not have the option of "same as source" if that is the case, what would be the best frame rate to use as a default for ripping my DVDs? (I want to have the 5.1 multichannel, for home theater viewing but not have A/V sync issues on my apple devices) Or is there a way to check each disk before I rip it to find the source frame rate?

My goal is to rip my entire DVD/Blu Ray library to an ext hard drive and stream to the player…but also use the same files on my iDevices.

Does anyone have a good settings profile that will work for both?

Some profiles don't have the "same as source" option in the dropdown for some reason, but it can be added manuallly by editing the profile xml or by using Profile Editor, which installs with DVDFab.

Before you undertake the massive conversion project, I suggest you install and learn how to use a couple of free tools that can answer questions about your Source media: MediaInfo and DVDSubEdit. Also become fully familiar with DVDFab's many settings for conversions, including resizing and cropping the image ("Video Effect Settings" button).

I would also suggest you update to the current version of DVDFab and also install v8.0.8.5, which has a no-longer available fix for converting oddly authored older DVDs that cause the newer versions to freeze up.

For testing or experimenting with settings, remember that you can convert only a couple of chapters instead of the entire movie by using the Title start/end settings button on the opening page of DVD and BD Ripper, just below the title select window.
