    DVD Ripper File Size Limit

    so,

I want to rip a dvd to MKV with the file size limit set to 4gb. But, instead of what I presumed would happen, which is the file is analysed and an appropriate bitrate is used to make the right file size, it would seem that the file just stops when it gets to 4gb. Which is useless, and cuts off the end of longer films.

Is this me doing something wrong?

"File Size" has always been only an approximation. Do not regard it as accurate.

Just make it a little smaller.

I presume you have the 4Gb FAT32 kimit somewhere in your workflow?

Yep, the Archos will only take MKV up to 4gb. But that's not the problem. The problem is that rather than alter the quality of the capture to make it fit around 4gb, it seems to just arbitrarily stop at 4gb, cutting off the end.

Which profile and encoding method are you using? See if you can locate the DVDFab internal log file from this chopped conversion and paste it into a post.

I'm using generic MKV h264, and the file size limit there. I'll see if I can dig out some logs when I get home.
