DVD Ripper DVDFab 9.0.7.0 unexpectedly stops while ripping (h264/AC3)

Hi all,

Have a major issue with DVDFab 9.0.7.0. (fully activated) ripping DVD to h264/ac3 (Win7 x64)
Ripping DVD starts for a few seconds then stops without any error message or crash. The program remains responsive but does nothing anymore (activity or CPU load drops down to zero). The program seems to be in an infinite wait state.

Notes:
I have exactly the same behaviour:
* with several DVDs I've tested, no one has worked,
* with or without GPU acceleration activated,
* with a DVD disc or an iso image copy of the DVD (made by DVDFab 9.0.7.0 DVD Copy) - the program stops ripping at approx the same ripping position (time),
* I have tried on 2 PCs (one with NVIDIA card, one with ATI card) - same behaviour (including when disabling anti-virus software)
* it works fine, without issue, with DVDFab 9.0.6.3 or earlier on both PCs

Anyone to confirm, or any idea of what is going wrong ?

same issue as above with v9.0.7.1 beta

The ripping starts for approx 30 seconds then stops...
Have to cancel the program to end.

No one to confirm this ripping issue ?

As a reminder and workarround, it works like a charm with DVDFab 9.0.6.3 or earlier.

Make a new iso with version 9071(were their any read error's during the 9070 iso process) then Post your log for version 9071 use the Nvida card and computer just to see if it does it in version 9071 also.Try it with a different movie i find 25 fps a little odd for a dvd are these pal movies? or US movies that are normally 29-30- or 60 FPS.

Can you try it with Nvida card and computer with version 9071 just to see if its the ATI card and Fab.Wilson or other staff member will have to look at this as i have no Pal dvds to test with this.

Yes I'm in Belgium, Europe so DVDs are PAL 25fps.
As requested I made several additional tests with 9.0.7.1 beta on a PC with a nvidia card.

You'll find the sequence hereafter and the associated log file as an attachment.

1/ Try to rip an european PAL DVD into mkv (h264/AC3) - save behaviour as above: it runs for about 30 seconds then it stops. Have to cancel to end.

2/ Make an iso copy image of this DVD : success.

3/ Try to RIP the .iso image into mkv (h264/AC3) - same behaviour, it starts than stops almost instataneously (disk access is much quicker than optical drive access) - my guess it seems to stop at the same "ripping point" each time. Have to cancel to end.

4/ Try to rip a japanese NTSC 29.9fps DVD - same behaviour it runs for about 30 seconds then it stops. Have to cancel to end.

5/ Restart DVDFab and Try to rip the same NTSC disc while disabling all GPU acceleration - same behaviour...

Hope you'll find something to fix this issue.
I'm ready for further testing if I can help.

I made an interesting finding for the developpers: this ripping issue seems related to the MKV encoder (encapsulation) engine.

Ripping a DVD works with mp4 (h264/ac3) settings where it stops at the very beginning with mkv (h264/ac3) or mkv.passthrough settings

Please find hereafter the test sequence (PC with ATI card) and associated log fiile:

1/ Ripping a japanese NTSC 29,9fps DVD into mp4 (h264/ac3) : success

2/ Ripping the same DVD into mkv (h264/ac3) : it stops ripping after approx 30 seconds, have to cancel to end.

3/ Ripping the same DVD into mkv (passthrough) : it stops ripping after few seconds, have to cancel to end.

So something has changed in mkv coding since v9.0.6.3 that makes it unusable now.
Please fix this annoying issue.

It seems much of your content is interlaced, which might be part of the problem. In any event, the QA Team will need to reproduce the problem. I will make them aware of this thread, so continue to watch it and respond to any questions they may have that the logs don't answer.

If the disc was purchased on line, please offer us the link.

If not, please specify the movie disc's region code and its version——single disc or two-disc set (BD+DVD).

In case that you are not sure about that, please take pictures of the cover(front and back) of the disc, send them to us, so that we can buy a same one to reproduce your issue.

Same behavior

My ripp stops also after view seconds with MKV. Two DVD's have same problems. 'Spy Games' and 'Once Upon a time in the west' remastered for 16:9
I use 9.0.7.2 and windows 8.1.

Same Problem

I am having the same problem with the apple TV profile or Ipad profiles with the latest Windows version. I also tried the beta. Windows 8.1

Previous version worked fine.

Hangs quickly. Never really gets started. I need to shut it down with Task Manager. Log is attached.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

I tried a few things last night. I have some old versions:
9.042 seemed to work
9.045 gave me error "Work 1 failed, Error = graph not_suitable_connected_filter graph(0) - pinName:video frame"

Future versions did not work either where I am sure they did in the past. Is it possible that the Windows 8.1 upgrade I did last week may have something to do with it? Is it impacting the Intel GPU acceleration?
