DVD Ripper Can't Copy Region 2 Discs

    Hi,

I have searched on these forums for an answer to this, but can't find it. I have been using DVDFab Version 6 to rip DVDs onto my notebook hard drive with very good results and very little hassle. (Using the DVD-Mobile-Generic option). However, whenever I want to rip a Region 2 disc, I have no luck. Sometimes the disc will simply just sit there, while sometimes DVDFab will read it and give me the selction boxes to check, afterwhich it will start the process but then nothing happens. These discs all play fine in my notebook, and yes, the region setting is set to Region 2/PAL.

I should also add I do set the disc setting to Region 2 when DVDFab first starts.

Only info I can find here is about making DVDs region free.

    Can anyone help?

    Thank You

    Suz

Your laptop shouldn't have any trouble playing PAL or NTSC whereas a standalone player likely will.
If you're just playing back on your laptop you may have exhausted your burner's capability to switch regions.
You can only switch regions 5 times and then the burner will lock.

Let's say you rip a R1 dvd, then R2 dvd...you can only switch like this 5 times.

You may be able to flash your burner with region-free firmware. This will prevent the region lock and allow for unlimited switches.

I'm not certain this is your problem, but based on your post, this is my best guess.

Post back with your burner's make & model and we'll can see if this is possible.

    //Edit
I should have added...you can't change the disc's region, but you can make it region-free

If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

I am also having a problem with an R2 disc in a R1 drive, but I think it is a euro protection problem, not so much just the regions. Team Beijing is working on it.

Thanks you both for your answers.

My DVD-Ram has been set to Region 2 and plays them, fine - I havent been going back and forth, so it definitely is not locked. Most maddening, when I click on Preview Title - in the little box in the lower left of the software - it plays fine.

Yet, it sticks at 0% and will not copy. I have also clciked in the settings, etc, and nothing. I even upgraded tis morning to the newest DVDFab version, and still nothing.

I am glad someone else is having this problem though and hope it is dealt with soon ... it isn't incredibly important but these are very expensive to replace British DVDs so would love to have a backup!
