DVD Ripper Major problems with Audio sync

I have been trying to figure out my audio sync problems for ohhhh I dont know, over a year now.

It has to do strictly with going from DVD to mobile

I have been all over this forum trying find answers.

I have followed all the advice that gregiboy has given.

    And nothing works.

The ironic thing (and what really pisses me off) was before the latest release version, I am not sure what I did, but after messing around with it for months I finally did something that allowed the conversion from DVD to mobile to work "most" of the time

Then one day I ran DVD fab and it told me my program had expired and I needed to upgrade, so I purchased the upgrade, installed and now I cannot get ANY file to work properly.

I burn ALL my dvds to file first, so I do the DVD to DVD. then I try going from DVD on my hard drive to mobile.

What I have noticed is if I go DVD to DVD and burn it from hard drive back to a DVD it works perfect, no audio sync problems at all. it is only going to mobile is where I have the problems.

It is really ticking me off because I purchase all my DVD's, all I am doing is putting them on a NAS device so they can be easily played from any of my devices in my house.

I have seen so many other people that report the audio sync problems and I have not yet seem to see any good solutions.

And I have done a google search and there seems to be other unhappy campers out there.

Can someone work with me on getting my problem fixed? or do I need to try and find another program and forget about using DVDfab?

What profile are you using, what format to converting to, what settings, etc. Please provide more information.

yes, the audio sync problem only raises it's head in specific profiles or in specific circumstances so more detailed information is required.

Let me state I have tried all the advice that I have found here on the forums. The following settings I am providing are probably default since I am kind of starting from scratch.

I have been a mechanic in my life, a computer systems engineer, I have done programming and currently I am the information technology director for a company.

Not bragging, just giving my past history so you will understand the reason I am starting from the begining again as I did not know if I got so far into trouble shooting if I started chasing my own tail, and maybe screwing one thing up as I fixed another. so I thought it best to start from square 1

        With that said....

I am trying to convert a file that I already ripped off of disk using DVDfab

I am using the xbox360.default profile. I have not modified this profile

I am using a fixed files size of 2000kb

Using default frame resolution of 704x298

        default Framerate of 23.976

        Audio format wma9
        bitrate 128kbps
        channel dolby ProLogic II
        No subpicture
        Fast encoding (1-pass)

Is there any other information you guys need?

Try a generic.avi.xvid.audiocopy encode at 1400 bitrate, 2 Pass, fps- Same as Source, same resolution. I am pretty sure that your XBox should be able to play an AVI and I find that this format is far more transportable to other players than WMV

Compare this encode with your previous encode using a software player such as VLC on your PC first for audio sync problems.

As a general comment the WMV profiles are the biggest problem so I generally steer away from them if I can.

Not trying to defend Fab here, but I have used Windows Media Encoder natively on many ocassions and ended up with the same audio sync problems and I have always suspected that Fab uses the WME engine in the back end processing.

Sorry you are wrong! It never works in any profile or any conversion from DVD to Mobile, or any Frame Rate, or any Bit Rate, on any DVD's, or Laptops or Fast Desktops I have tried, Period! You blokes in your 25 FPS. I sure would like to see that. I guess I'll just have to wait for this new Sync engine upgrade that was stated here.

Mate, I have never had any problems with audio sync with AVI or MKV conversions.

Yes you are correct !!! At least our DVD's are authored correctly with all the VOB's at 25fps here in OZ, not like I have seen from the US where each and every VOB can range from 23.96 to 29.97 fps. You could always emigrate to Australia !!!

I HAVE had sync problems with WMV format and that is what I was pointing out.

I can understand your frustration but I'm going to be realistic here:-

The problem seems to be restricted to either specific profiles and/or a specific subset of users.

Some of these users, unlike yourself moaning continually, have assisted greatly in trying to track down where the problem is emanating from and as waptikev has pointed out, quite a lot of titles that he was having problems with and analysed have the multiple different bitrate problem.

Fab have reported that they are working on the problem and I am sure that it is not an easy task given the various factors involved. I am sure, from my over 6 years of association with Fab, that they will eventually crack the problem.

Please refrain from posting unless you have a contribution to make otherwise you will find yourself winning a holiday from this forum.

                    Sync engine upgrade? whats that?

The developers are working on changing the DVD to Mobile engine to the Blu-ray to Mobile engine and all sync issues are fixed for that but no time frame as to when it will be implimented as they have to make sure no other problems arise from the upgrade

DVD are currently rewriting the DVD to Mobile encoding engine and this will be available when complete and included in the normal upgrade process.

                        K, thanks.

I am still running the conversion GregiBoy suggested, keeping my fingers crossed.

I have 4 Xbox's throughout the house with one 6TB drive. It is nice to be able to watch any movie from any room as we choose. So I am really hoping to find a solution to this. probabyl about two thirds of my videos converted then I started having problems

Last time I used my Xbox 360 to play a file converted with DVDFab I did not have audio sync problems but now I only convert to PSP format when I travel

Well, the AVI files has perfect audtio sync, however my XBOX will not recognize the AVI file.

Anyone have any other / additional ideas?

I always thought that you could using XBox Media Centre. My children do on theirs.

                              Have a look here.....
