My kids are 30+ and did it all by themselves. It was on the original Xbox

My eldest pointed me here for the XBox 360.

we have 360's through out the house.

I just tried using DVDfab to convert the good avi file it had created into a WMV. and it screwed up the audip sync again.

My suspicions are that the company does not have the needed information or specs to properly convert anything to WMV format.

man this is going to be a pain in my a$$/ my next step is to take a totally seperate conversion program and see if another program will convert the avi file that DVDfab creates and convert it into a WMV file.

At least if I can find something I can do a batch convert with DVDFAB to AVI then hopefully what ever other program I can find can also do a batch convert.

Unless anyone here knows what is going on as to what the problem is converting to WMV?

The last post that I listed above said that the XBox 360 will play AVI's. You just have to do some updates.

I've converted thousands of DVDs to iPod format using DVD to mobile and rarely get audio sync problems. When I do it is usually when I'm converting DVDs I've recorded off the TV using a hard disk / DVD recorder (yes I know they don't need decrypting, but I still find DVDFab quick and convenient to use).

The sync problems start at the point where an advert has been edited out on my hard disk recorder (ie the sync is perfect up to a specific point, after which sync is lost). I don't think this is your problem, but may help others who experience sync issues, but tt may help for pre-recorded DVDs with similar symptoms.

My fix is to use an MPEG Editor (I use TMPGEnc) to cut edit to the last and first FULL frames either side of the advert break (ie remove all "I"(?) frames). Save it as a new MPEG then feed this into File to Mobile. Fixes it every time for me.

I have XBOX live, and I just did all the updates available for it. still will not recognize AVI files.

I think DVDFAB needs to either come up with a solution that makes it easy to convert to WMV files and post the solution, or they need to remove that option from their program, because from my experiance and seeing all the other people who have complained about this, it isnt an isolated situation and I feel at this point it is false advertising.

I will continue to try anything and everything that people suggest, but so far no luck.

I am going to look around the program and see if I can figure out how to tweak it, what concerns me however is DVDFAB took the avi file it had created, and what was working perfect and messed up the audio sync when going to WMV. so it has to be something in that process.

As I said, if anyone has a solution please share it, if I figure it out I will make sure I post it. but at least I know a little more of what is going on.

              Bottom line.

DVDFAB will burn from disk to hard drive, using a player that will play DVD files, the files work fine. No audio sync issues

DVDFAB will burn to AVI from disk file, and works perfect, no audio sync problems.

DVDFAB has problems converting to WMV. conversion process causes problems with audio sync

DVDFab has problems with DVD to mobile, MKV, MP4 with audio Sync,
I am hopeful that they will fix it, according to Gregiboy.

AGJ, are you able to play AVI's on your 360?

                        So far no joy.

I thought I had a work around, but the other program I am trying to use to convert AVI to WMV totally sucks and isnt working properly.

What the heck is it with WMV files and programs having such a hard time converting to them!!! AHHHHH

WMV format, as well as XBOX, are Microsoft products. This is an answer on your question.
My advise, go back and read GregiBoy posts, and implement all his proposed improvements to XBOX. Your life will change when you will make your XBOX read AVI files...

Hi IPopov, that is it in a nutshell. Micro$oft & $ONY...

I honestly cannot understand the hand wringing and breast beating about the use of XBox's and PS's as media players.

They were primarily designed as games machines and really are less than ordinary as media devices that will not play "Industry Standard" AVI & MKV files, considering you can buy dedicated media players that will do this perfectly for under a hundred bux.

I don't know how many posts I have read about restrictions and problems with these devices.

I think the old "Jack of all trades and Master of none!!!" anology applies here.

I am not trying to divert from the issue that there is a problem with the WMV profiles but as I have said many times previously, I am sure that Fab is restricted on fixing this because the backend transcoder used is courtesy of Micro$oft and hence the lag in development.

I have certainly proved this to my own satisfacion by using Windoze Media Encoder natively and encounterd the same problems (and even more). If you disbelieve me, just download it and try it yourself !!! It's FREE !!! WOW !!!

I just could not be arsed in spending literally hundreds of hours dicking around with something when I can fix it for less than a hundred bux.

                              GregiBoy,
I'm absolutely with you on every word, it's like expecting a good steak in seafood restaurant...
I don't understand why people so attached themselves to their game consoles... don't even want to go much further, you've said it perfect.
Especially XBOX... People just not getting it.... Windows Media Player is the worst player ever, what they're expecting from XBOX???
