instead of converting from the DVD you should use the DVD to DVD option and save to hard drive. Then you use what you just saved to hard drive as source to convert using DVD to Mobile. If you still get the crash then it a bug in the Beta you are using and would have to wait for the next Beta to try again

This is what I do, the source is the dvd, the target is a folder on my hard disc.

Or do you mean that in a first step I should copy the whole dvd to the hard drive (with the "dvd to dvd" programme) and in a second step do the conversion of the files I want to mkv (with the "dvd to mobile" programme) ?

If this work around would work, I'm happy that this would be a temporary solution, but I hope that a true solution could be found. Otherwise why would the programme offer this possibility I simply used ?

Yes that what I mean and it not a work around as your DVD drive laser will not work as hard and the DVD drive will last longer. It will as well not take as long to convert to file since you not transfering and converting at same time.

Unfortunately, this was not the solution for the problem.

Now I'm not a technician, but if I want to copy just 1 song for example of a concert dvd, you say that the normal way of doing this is to rip the whole dvd to the hard disc. And in a second step to convert this song from the hard disc.

Ripping the dvd took something like 30 mins. Then the second step unfortunately crashed DVDFab. But this means the laser was busy in the first step during 30 mins.

Wouldn't it take shorter if you use "DVD to mobile" and convert that 1 song just in 1 go ?

Anyway, I hope that the problem will be solved quickly. I'm quite stuck with several problems with DVDFab. Crossing my fingers.

Since I would like to have a soft ware that works, I continue to test DVDFab. Unfortunately I have to report another thing that doesn't work.

Still with the same Pink Floyd Pulse disc I want to have all songs in different chapters so that it will be easy to make a playlist with a future Popcorn Hour or Dune 3.

So I start with the ripped dvd on my hard drive. I used this time version 7.0.9.3 (since I have troubles with the current beta version).
audio is AC-3/5.1 (1 audio track)
profile: generic.mkv.h264.audiocopy
video: 2 pass
fixed bit rate: 13000 kbps
divide into chapters (I make a free translation here because it seems impossible for me to install the soft ware in english even though I asked it)
resolution 720 x 550
task time elapsed: 0h 45'

Then it was still on 0% and 0 fps, hard disc turning like hell but nothing appeared to happen.

I tried then to use a different profile
profile: generic.mkv.xvid.audiocopy

The rest of the settings stayed the same.

When I hit start, it starts converting at 0.20 fps en slows down quickly to 0.02 fps. After 2 mins it is at 0.01 fps (still at 0.00 %). I stopped it manually since my previous negative experience after 3 mins (0.00%).

I noticed you are using CUDA and I've had problems with it as well. Try setting the A/V to software only and give it a try.

Try reducing the bitrate to <10000 kbps.

Try encoding with only one-pass...I am having a very similar problem and 1-pass works fine (full CPU use) but 2-pass starts at the same speed (as 1-pass) but the CPU use never moves and the job is soon at 0 fps (takes about 3 minutes).

I've been fiddling with settings for a few hours and the only way I can get it to use the CPU normally (which is to say maxed) is to use only 1-pass.

You never said you just wanted 1 song but if that what you want you can use Main Movie I believe and select the one you want. Not sure if that possible for this type of DVD. You can as well try Customize and select what you want that way as well. But it your DVD drive and if you want the laser to work the entire time converting to mobile you can. I just figured I mention a way that would save wear and tare on it so it would last longer for you

Have a read of my "Best Practices" thread and this explains the reasoning hehind ripping to the HDD first. Blu-Ray ripping magnifies this even further.

Music disks usually have each song allocated to a chapter.

Also, most music disks are composed as interlaced content and only the latest beta is capable of handling this on BR's.
