    Audio Problems... and more

So as I stated before when using the Video Converter for V8.0.5 to convert my camera videos (AVI) to WMV (so that my PS3 will see them and play them) the output now has no audio with it - where as on my other laptop that had 7.0.9.0 it worked perfectly.

I did not receive and error messages but rather everything worked well. Except I noticed something else last night. The new output file is longer than the original for example: if the original was 45 secs the new file is 1min 35 secs - where the video stops at 45 secs but WMP continues to run with a frozen picture until the end (also when I click on the paly bar it tells me that the file is that long in play time.

    Here are the log files:

    In addition

Also something else to mention between the two software loads and PCs.

On the other laptop with V7 when the video was converting it seemed to not recognize when the video ended and would continue to chug along (although the fps and elapsed task time stops) until I paused then canceled it - but the end result was good.

But with the V8 and the other laptop the file completes with the pop up successful window - but then with what I posted above.

      The Details

I will lay it all out in more detailed terms just in case my previous quick rambling (before I went to work) did not make sense or provide enough details to this mystery….

DVDFab version: I am currently using both the 7.5.0.8 (beta) and the 8.0.0.5 versions

Nature of the problem: When I try to convert my canon cameras AVI (MVI….) video files over to WMV (so that I can stream to media players in my house) the output has two issues, even though everything went smoothly according to the DVDFab software.

The output lacks audio and seems to lengthen the file (time wise) even though the file stops playing at the input videos correct length.

This happens on both version of the DVDFab mentioned above… however when I previously used 7.0.9.0 (before my hard drive on my other laptop died on me) it converted with audio and the correct length (even though converting process seemed flawed – meaning that the bitrate and time stop while the overall process time would continue until I paused and canceled the process).

EXACT profile you used and any parameters: I am using wmv.default with a resolution of 640 x 480, the Framerate set to Same as Source and audio set to 128kbps and Stereo (although have tried both Dolby choices). As for the fixed bitrate I have tried 1400 / 1600 / 1800.

Does this happen with all titles or just one: I tried DVD Ripper (DVD to mobile) to test to see if it would so the same but no it has audio and the video length was good. But all camera videos this happens to.

      Operating system/CPU/memory configuration:

New One (with problems) Old One (without issues)

Vista (32-bit) Home Premium XP (SP3)
      AMD 64 x 2 1.8 GHz Pentium M 1.86 Ghz
      1.6 RAM 1 GB RAM
      WMP 10 WMP 9

Made any recent changes to your OS or system hardware: no

Other DVD or BD software installed, particularly if recently added: No

For File to Mobile, this additional information will speed resolution of the problem:

      SOURCE FILE TYPE:
      SOURCE VIDEO TYPE: AVI
      SOURCE VIDEO RESOLUTION: 640 x 480
      SOURCE AUDIO TYPE: PCM
      DVDFab VERSION: 7.5.0.8
      DVDFab PROFILE: wmv.default
      OUTPUT RESOLUTION: SAME AS SOURCE

I don't think Video Converter supports motion jpeg AVIs. This may have changed recently, but it did not at one time. I'll try to find out.

But the wierd thing is that on V 7.0.9.0 (and my other pc) I was able to succesfuly do it - although it acted like it was not going to do it.

My thoughts are that maybe laptop (with Vista) is missing some codec or has something enabled that I am not aware of that is effecting DVDFab to succesfuly do the conversion. Or that newer versions no longer support it.

With a very few exceptions (like CoreAVC), DVDFab does not use external pieces and parts, so it may be that the capability was lost with the rebuild of the "mobile" engine. There were some items in the release notes that said File Converter would not be able to process all the input types that it did before. From the wording, I took this to be a temporary situation. Stick with a version before 7.5.x.x for now if this capability is important to you. (You can have v7 and v8 on the same machine with no conflicts and the same key works for both.)
