When playing a dvd, drive spins up and then idles but when I play a blu ray the drive keeps spinning and does not idle is this normal or should I try reinstalling.

I think this may be normal for some drives, I mean it should not sound like a 737 taking off but both the drives connected to my pc continue reading when playing. If you install an earlier version does it behave differently? Thanks for reply, the two that I have tried so far do, but with an old version of powerdvd they behave the same as dvds, drive spins up for a couple of minutes the goes into quiet mode for rest of movieComment

i have the same problem
the drive (lg bh16ns40)
spins up and stays there.
with vlc it goes idle after some seconds
guess its the way how dvdfab access the data from the disc.
may be its reading blu rays in data/ripping mode (to read aacs) not in movie mode.....Comment
