    DVDfab passkey lite working erratrically

I installed the lite version on my HTPC to use with J.River media center and it worked just fine on the first Blueray I watched. A couple of weeks later I tried to watch Gatsby and no go. It said I needed to buy the full version.

When I then installed it on my workstation PC and tried to watch it it works fine?

I did remove the application on My HTPC and reinstalled it but it does the same thing.

Both are running 32bit Windows 7 Professional.

On the HTPC it starts to scan the Blueray and then it pops up a window about starting DVDpasskey with some garbled license info appearing below. Answering yes or ignoring it yields the same result.

Is there a time bomb on the lite version or has something gotten garbled here?

Identical software and opsys on both machines. One works one does not.

The HTPC is using the HDMI port to place the video on my Plasma whereas the workstation is just going to the monitor in an analog manner. Is it the HDMI security?

    Any ideas?

Version V8.2.0.9 does the same thing.

When first installed, you are running the free trial version of the full product, which devolves into Passkey Lite automatically after the trial period. The Lite version has limited capabilities for disc decryption of DVDs and Blu-rays, so I think this explains the results you noticed--i.e., you were in full trial version at first on the HTPC, then Lite mode, then full trial again on the other machine, then Lite mode.

So even if you select to start the lite version because it's newly installed it actually uses the full version until some(?) trial period is over?

DVDFab does and pretty sure Passkey does as well. Why on earth would you not want it to? The trial period is 30 days. Blu-ray decryption is very limited in Lite.

Because I was trying to evaluate what the Lite version was capable of doing.
By invoking the full version even though I selected the Lite version for loading I was mislead.

I thought I had found a solution for use with JRiver and was embarrassed when my guests could not watch the BlueRay.

At $59 this is more than the entire JRiver software suite which can rip BlueRay to disk and then view it but I was looking for a way to just play them directly.

Too expense in my opinion but thanks for explaining what has transpired.

Not so. It can not play a Blu-ray without an on-the-fly decrypter like Passkey. The one they recommend is much more expensive.

              Passkey Lite vs. Blu-Ray

After reading messages in here, I decided to experiment a bit with Passkey Lite.
What exactly is Passkey Lite supposed to be able to do with a blu-ray?
I don't see where it does anything at all - just looks at the disc & displays a message to tell you to go buy it. Is this another side-effect of the website address change? Maybe Passkey Lite did not get the message? Or has support for blu-ray been dropped from Passkey lite entirely?

Passkey Lite can only decrypt Blu-rays with MKBv12 or earlier protection, current discs are MKBv40 or higher.
