Converting to DVDFab player has video playing at wrong rate

I'm trying to convert some video taken with a camcorder so it will play in the HD Video MP3 player device.

VLC shows the original video as:
Video = H264-MPEG-4 AVC (part10)(h264),1440x1080, frame rate = 59.94, Decoded format = Planar 4:2:0 YUV
Audio = A52 Audio (aka AC3) 48kHz sample rate, 256kb/s bitrate

I needed to 'disable all GPU codecs' to get it to generate any video at all, and I selected the DVDFab player in the Video Converter selection.

During the conversion process (which took 0:1:20), the progress bar went smoothly from 0 to 50% over 40 seconds and then seemed to hang there. After another 40 seconds the conversion said it completed successfully (without the progress bar getting past 50%).

The problem is the converted video is playing at twice the expected rate, while the audio is playing normally.

VLC shows the converted file as:
Video = H264 - MPEG-4 AVC (part 10)(avc1), 800x450, frame rate = 59.94, decoded format = Planar 4:2:0 YUV
Audio = MPEG AAC audio (mp4a), Stereo, sample rate = 48kHz.

I notice that Profile has a Frame Rate pull-down for the video format that maxes out at 30fps, and the internal log shows it setting the video frame rate to (30/1).

Is there some frame-rate setting that I'm missing to get this to convert properly?

Getting a bit more interesting...

VLC appears to be displaying the wrong frame rate. I checked the original and converted video in a couple more players (wmp and avs) and it shows as 30 fps. Perhaps something is confusing VLC and the converter?

If you do not already have it, please install the (free) MediaInfo utility and let it analyze one of the files from the camera. These are often MJPEG format, which can be a problem to convert. Please post the MediaInfo results here.

Seeing from the MediaInfo information, the converted video frame rate is 29.970 fps,which is correct as you set it in Conversion Settings Framerate.

Is the MediaInfo data from the unconverted camera file?

VLC is often confused by interlaced video, and MediaInfo may be also, I have seen it get this wrong before. Should the camera be producing interlaced or progressive video?

yes the MediaInfo is from the unconverted camera file.

The camera does record in interlaced mode by default (60i). I can put it into progressive mode (30p).

Do you know of any conversion utility to put an interlaced video into progressive?
