Virtual Drive and Copy Protection

Is there a way for a Video-DVD or a software saved on a CD/DVD to recognize whether it is running from a virtual drive or from a real drive (except by checking whether there are drive-simulating programs installed on the computer)?

I don't think so. PowerDVD 17 and several earlier versions think that mounted ISOs are optical drives. It may depend on how the software handles disc I/O however.
