Radeon RX Vega 64 H.265 Video-Encoder not working

    Hello,

I rip my DVD-Collection (for example: Relic Hunter, Psych, Eureka ...) with the DVD Fab Profile "MKV.H265" (see dvd_fav_profile_settings.jpg in the attachments).
As far as i know my Radeon RX Vega 64 supports the H.265 encoding.
After the rip starts i detect different issues:
    • DVD Fab show me that the encoding work with 250fps and more but in the task manager i see, that my vega doesn't work (only 1% utilization).
If the rip reaches 7-12% in DVDFab the fps-rate drops to zero. The process doesn't finish properly. I have to cancel the process or kill DVDFab in the TaskManager.
There is no outputfile in the filemanager
    • DVD Fab show me that the encoding work with 10-50fps. In the task manager i see, that my vega doesn't work (only 4-6% utilization)
The estimated duration of the rip of one Episode (45 minutes) increase to 2-3 hours :-(
In the FileManager i see an outpoutfile. After i cancel the process in DVDFab the outputfile has a file size of a few MB. Sometimes after the cancel command DVDFab freezes and i must kill the process in the TaskManager.
    • Postive Case
DVD Fab show me that the encoding work with 250fps and more. I see in the task manager that my vega work with 50-75% sometimes 100% utilization.
The duration of the rip is up to 3 minutes. The outputfile has a file size of 200mb.

This random behavior is really annoying and i need help

    My System:
CPU: Intel i5-3570k (integrated HD Graphics 4000 is deactivated)
    GPU: Radeon RX Vega 64

    My DvD Fab Settings
All Video-Decoder and Video-Encoder Settings are set to AMD APP (see dvd_fab_config.jpg in the attachments)

I have the same issue with all DVDFab 11 versions.
    I didn't try older versions.

Can anyone help me? Is this a bug in DVDFab or in my settings?

    Best Regards
    chuckysHouse

    Please do this:
    1) attach the DVDFab internal log session that reflects the problem and the DVDFab fabcheck log (same folder).
    2) in Settings->AV Codec, click the Hardware Info button and screen cap the small box that opens with the results and attach it. (Cropped png images work better here)

When the fps slowly spirals down it generally means the decoding has failed.

      1) the log reflects the problem i explain in my second bullet point
I cancel the process after 2 minutes - it was at 5 fps.

I hope you can find more informations in the logs

More tips about images in my sig, below. As a possible workaround, in AV Codec, try setting Decoding to Software and Encoding to AMD to see if there is any improvement. Sorry for the problem, the devs will need to check it.

I changed my settings to your recommendation and it is getting minimal better.
When i start DVDFab the first and sometimes the second task in the task list were ripped.
After the first or second task i get the same issue as i reported

So the workaround ist Start DVDFab -> Rip 1 or 2 Episodes -> Close DVDFab -> Start DVDFab and so on

try checking the Radeon RX Vega 64 for a driver update, then re enable the AV Codecs
              to see if encoding improves.

I updated the driver (Radeon Softwareversion) to the newest version 20.2.1
                I get the same issues.

The only way i can rip an episode without an error is the way i wrote as my workaround (Start DVDFab -> Rip one Episode -> Close DVDFab) and Video-Decoder setting H.265 -> Software

After a long time where i didn't rip my series i give it now a new try.
I updated my ATI driver to actual version 20.7.2.
I updated DvdFab to Version 11.0.9.9

                  I started with A/V-Codec:
                  Video-Decoder: H.256 -> AMD App
                  Video-Decoder: H.256 -> AMD App

What should i say ... it was getting worse.
When the ripping start, the whole application close. No error or message dialog appears. The process in the Windows Task Manager disappears.

                  Any Suggestions?
It is so difficult to support AMD GPUs?
